Liang Shuming is a philosopher who pursues wisdom in practice. He has spent his life exploring and solving two major problems: one is the problem of life, that is,the meaning of life. The other is the social problem of China, that is,the future of the Chinese nation. In his unremitting exploration,he went in and out of Buddhism and Confucianism, studied Chinese,Western and Indian culture in depth, and formed his own unique views on religious issues.Liang Shuming's solution of explaining religion with Buddhism and replacing religion with morality presents his religious view from both sides. On the choice of individual ultimate problems,Liang Shuming agreed with Buddhism and put forward to the theory of religious comfort, believing that religion is a combination of transcendence and reluctance, which has a profound impact on all aspects of social life.Liang Shuming believes that religion has the real necessity of eternal existence, because the problems of “impermanence of life” and “old, sick and dead” will exist forever.Liang Shuming chose Confucianism to solve China's social problems, and put forward to a solution to replace religion with morality, that is,to organize society with Confucian ethical status and ritual and music concessions instead of religion.Liang Shuming affirms the value of Buddhism and Confucianism in the ultimate sense. He believes that Confucianism and Buddhism are interlinked and highly consistent in the sense of ultimate concern.Confucianism and Buddhism are the basic characteristics of Liang Shuming's religious thought. In his life,he was indifferent to fame and wealth, detached from things, and joined the world to save the world with the compassion of the people born.It can be said that he was based on the spirit of Buddhism and helped the world with the spirit of Confucianism, which is a model of Chinese contemporary culture and ideology. The first chapter introduces Liang Shuming's life and his father Liang Ji's influence,as well as Liang Shuming's puzzlement in his early thoughts,in order to understand the basis of his religious outlook and the important influence of religion on Liang Shuming's life. The second chapter introduces Liang Shuming's understanding of religion, puts forward to the theory of religious comfort, affirms the necessity of religious existence, and expounds the relationship between religion and morality. From the perspective of Buddha, the third chapter expounds Liang Shuming's views on religion in life and that Buddhism should not be advocated in the contemporary era.The fourth chapter puts forward to the view of replacing religion with morality from the perspective of Confucianism, affirming that this is the correct way to solve the current problems in China. The fifth chapter draws a conclusion that Buddhism and Confucianism are interlinked and have consistency in the sense of ultimate concern. In the conclusion part, the author combines the reality of the social transformation period in contemporary China, and analyses the important guiding significance of Liang Shuming's thought of replacing religion with morality for the reconstruction of spiritual beliefs, firm ideals and beliefs, and the realization of national rejuvenation.
