The Commercial Press And The Development Of Modern Chinese History

As the leader of modern publishing,the Commercial Press(CP),which was formed in 1897,had great achievements in publishing historical books.All these achievements propelled the developments of modem historical science and reflected the connection between CP and historical science at the same time.We can dig out evidence in this publishing track.However,few papers paid attention on this study.In view of this,the article try to arrange important achievements on historical books' publishing of modern CP and find values and affections so as to manifest the CP's contributions on modern historical development.Apart from introduction and summary,the whole paper is consisted of five parts,every part has one section.The first part discussed CP's exuberant vitality and stable basis,which is under mixed modern time's factors.Meanwhile,it explored the need of modern historical compiling ways and CP's effective practice in faced with this need.The second section concluded CP's achievements on arranging ancient history books and discussed scholars' positive interaction in teasing out two different publishing ways of Zhang Yuanji and Wang Yunwu,who were both leaders of modern CP.The third section discussed changes of publishing foreign history books in different periods and new breakthrough in Chinese human chronicles,publishing on the basis of exchanges between China and the West.This section also focused on He Bingsong's performance of history books in CP.The forth section found out the connection between The Chinese Cultural Series and The University Series and modern historical science's developing trend on the characteristic of subject's division and cooperation.The historical achievements and values had also been dug out in this section.The last section discussed the historical achievements of Eastern Magazine,Chinese Biographical Dictionary and Chinese Place Names Dictionary of modern CP from the perspective of multivariate publishing ways.
