It has been a hundred years since the first animated documentary was created. From making up for the lack and shortage of photographic and video materials at first,to caring for reality in its own unique form of expression,to using digital technology to restore and reproduce the real world, even to reflect the psychological and spiritual aspects of subjective reality, animation has continuously expanded the creation methods and tables of live video documentaries. The present form has attracted wide attention from the industry and academia. However, compared with the image creation of animated documentaries, its theoretical research focuses on the authenticity of animated documentaries, but lacks systematic theoretical analysis. Therefore, starting from the ontological theory of animated documentary, this paper will explore its aesthetic expression, and construct the cultural dimension of animated documentary research in the context of the new media environment. This paper combs the concept, classification and visual perception of animated documentaries through literature review, comparison and analysis methods, constructs the ontology theory of animated documentaries, explores the space of real expression of animated documentaries from the perspective of enriching and extending the reality of documentaries, and analyses the independence of animated documentaries combined with the virtual and alienated characteristics of animated art.Special aesthetic expression. At the same time, the diversity and richness of images brought by digital technology in the new media environment meet the audience's pursuit of "watching".Therefore, this paper will finally analyze the animated documentary from the cultural point of view, and explore the development direction of animated documentary creation under the new media environment.
