Research On Female Dress Writing In Lin Yutang's Novels

Clothing,food,shelter and transportation are the four major things to maintain daily livelihood,and clothing is the most important,occupying an important position in people's lives.From ancient times to modern times,there are many writers describing the clothes of characters in literary works.There are not many writers who can make the clothes shine brilliantly.Lin Yutang is a writer who can make the clothes surpass their ontological functions.Clothing is a typical object of expression in Lin Yutang's novels and a key to enter the world of Lin Yutang's novels.For Lin Yutang,clothing is not an empty signifier,but a living and meaningful signification;it is not an empty Abstract symbol,but a concrete image.Women play an important role in the corridor of Lin Yutang's novels.Clothing is inseparable from women.Clothing includes all the emptiness and reality of their lives.Lin Yutang's love for female costume writing is closely related to his growth experience,family life,cultural accomplishment and literary concept.This paper is divided into three parts: introduction,text and conclusion.Chapter one analyses the characteristics of female costume writing in Lin Yutang's novels: female costume is closely related to female body,male writers describe female costume,which can easily produce desire imagination with gender color,but Lin Yutang's female costume writing shows the characteristics of language neutrality and emotional restraint;Lin Yutang is deeply in love with traditional culture and has a special sense of Western culture.Affection,he loved the costume culture of the East and the West respectively,which led to his costume writing with the characteristics of "Chinese and Western juxtaposition of old and new";and because of the influence of Chinese traditional costume culture,his writings of different status,different classes of characters in dress are different,showing the characteristics of "dress grade decoration of superiority and inferiority".Chapter two analyses the causes of the formation of Lin Yutang's female costume characteristics,and explores the internal relationship between the expression of costume language and the writer's costume concept: the love of Dream of Red Mansions is the potential cause of the formation of his costume discourse;the influence of eastern and Western costume culture is the ideological root of the formation of his costume aesthetics;the four most important parts of Lin Yutang's life are mother,second sister,Lai Baiying and Liao Cuifeng Women are the perceptual reasons for the formation of his concept of women's clothing.Chapter three analyses the role of Lin Yutang's female costume writing in shaping the image of female characters.Clothing plays an irreplaceable role in shaping the image of female characters.Lin Yutang uses the symbolic role of clothing to highlight the characters' personality in silent language,to foster the psychology of the characters in different environments,and implies the fate of the characters by focusing on costume discourse everywhere.This paper pays attention to all kinds of female images in Lin Yutang's novels,takes clothing as the breakthrough point,and based on close reading of the text,elaborates and deeply interprets the clothing writing involved in this article,trying to explore the connotation of typical clothing writing and the significance of clothing writing to the characterization of Lin Yutang's novels.
