He Tang And His Literary Research

As an excellent neo-confucianist in the middle Ming dynasty,He Tang's literary creation made quite unique due to his philosophical thought and the influence of the literary archaist movement.Taking the anthology of He Wending compiled by Jia Daiwen in 1576 as the main text,this paper attempts to make an in-depth study of He Tang's life and philosophical thoughts,analyze it's influence on his literature view and creations,grasp the characteristics of his literary style.The paper consists of four parts.The first chapter discusses He Tang's life story and his writings.Combining text interpretation and on-the-spot investigation,we have an opportunity to restore the truth of his life and do a textual research on edition.The second chapter is devoted to exploring the philosophical thoughts highlighted in He Tang's literary creations.It mainly discusses his philosophical views on promoting Cheng-Zhu's Neo-Confucianism and advocating pragmatism under the background of flourishing Wang Yangming's psychology,following the traditional Confucian view of destiny and advocating the concept of change.It also explains the particularity and significance of his philosophical thought in the academic field of Neo-Confucianism of mid-ming dynasty.The third chapter makes an in-depth study of the internal relations between his philosophical thoughts and his view of literature.It further combines with the influence of the literary archaist movement to analyze He Tang's article theory of paying more attention to“Dao”(?)and despise the literature and his poetic theory of pursuing nature and simplicity so as to explore the uniqueness of his view of literature.The fourth chapter makes a detailed interpretation of the text and makes an analysis of the content and style of the proses of the“Dao”(?),the lyric poetry and Sanqu combining with He Tang's literature view and creative mentality.Then affirming the value of He Tang's literature.
