The spirit of modernity is Instrumental rationality.While vigorously promoting the development of human society,there are also the drawbacks of enslaving and even destroying people.Nietzsche promoted the Irrational spirit in the analysis of Dionysus and Apollo.And Freud proved the shackles and structure of the modern social civilization from the perspective of psychology.the Frankfurt School also regard the Aesthetics as a way of liberation from the Iron cage...Since the 18 th century,the literary and artistic schools and theories that reflect Modernity have emerged in an endless stream,which together constitute the "Aesthetic modernity".As a concrete manifestation of Aesthetic modernity in the field of literature and thought,Modernism itself is a reflection on social Modernization.Surrealism,as a radical one of modernism,has created a series of unexpected images juxtaposition with the creation of "dream record" and "free association",which brings a shocking aesthetic experience.And thus represent a reflection and criticism which comes from "Aesthetics" on modernization of society,economy,and politics.Automatic writing,as the key and core of the Surrealist movement,on the one hand,constitutes the “other” of order by means of self-disciplined way of creation and texts full of irrational and unconscious features,criticizing materialized reality.And attempting to efresh people's awareness of solidification through innovation and breakthroughs on language and image.And in this way they can achieve their goal of changing mediocrity.On the other hand,the Automatic writing that attempts to act on reality not only enriches the unconscious social connotation with Hegel's dialectics,but also makes the self-discipline art once again related to social practice.This path embodies a shift from Modernism to Postmodernism.This Post-modern transition is concentrated embodied in the language and image of Automatic writing: sentence is not logical,unreadable,polysemy,etc.;the image emphasizes the impact on the "eyes".Automatic writing can uncover the unconsciousness of the subject and present a deep pattern.But the piece together of image and the absence of meaning make it tends to be “flat” than any literature before.These all give expression to postmodern nature-the interventional and visual features.
