On The Construction Of The Chinese Image In Yan Geling's Novels | | Posted on:2020-03-03 | Degree:Master | Type:Thesis | | Country:China | Candidate:L L Shen | Full Text:PDF | | GTID:2435330578478942 | Subject:Chinese Language and Literature | | Abstract/Summary: | PDF Full Text Request | | Yan Geling was one of the most popular Chinese women writers in overseas.Studying Yan Geling’s literary world,we find that she did not purposely pursue formal innovation and novel theme novelty,but focused on building many typical Chinese images in different texts.These Chinese images had made outstanding contributions to the development of contemporary literature.The image of China that we are studying here is a kind of "national image".But it is not "national image" from the perspectives of international political relations or society economics.It is a self-moulding of Chinese image for Chinese writers to write Chinese stories and materials about China.Yan Geling as an American Chinese writer.Although most of her writing is in Chinese,a small part,such as The Banqueter,is in English.A large part of Yan Geling’s writing is facing Western readers.The characters,scenes and themes in her works naturally arouse the imagination of Western readers about China as a whole.Her writing,as well as her writing of Chinese stories,also reflects a larger overall image of China.Based on Yan Geling’s life experience,it is found that her creative process is closely related to her own experience.Yan Geling’s life experience can be divided into four parts: before going abroad,after going abroad,going to Africa and living abroad.At the same time,the image of China in her works has undergone a change from being seen to being watched because of the changes in the writer’s life.Especially the two stages after going abroad.The image of China in her works has changed from his image in the eyes of the West to the one that resists the gaze of others,and finally to reverse writing and self-shaping of the image of China.The transformation from China’s position to the world spirit has been completed.This paper summarized the cultural motivation of Yan Geling’s construction which about Chinese image,as well as the type and theme.The thesis was divided into three parts.Firstly,the preamble described Yan Geling’s life and research significance,as well as the current academic research on Yan Geling’s creation.On this basis,it summarized the previous research results and put forward to the innovative points and research ideas of this paper.The first chapter is mainly about the cultural motivation of Chinese image construction.First of all,it came from the writer’s gender consciousness and traumatic experience.At the same time,it combined own discrete experience and cultural memory.And in the process of creation,the consciousness of human nature and the feelings of home and country were integrated.Yan Geling as a representative Chinese woman writer.She had experience of living abroad and at home.The experience of dual culture and the writer’s unique perspective of "the other" in foreign culture made the image of China constructed in his works very special.These images of China showed thediversity of Chinese culture to the world.At the same time,it broke the stereotype of Westerners towards Chinese people.These Chinese images had made great contributions to the exchange and integration of Chinese and Western cultures.The second chapter mainly summarizes the types and themes of Chinese image construction in Yan Geling’s works.Yan Geling created a female Utopia under the theme of gender through a series of female images.At the same time,through the writing of the female body,the beauty of human nature under the body metaphor is written,and a kindly country and a harmonious Oriental are constructed under the narrative of war.The third chapter mainly explains the logic and the course of change of Chinese image construction.The Chinese people in Yan Geling’s works experienced the situation of being seen and watched.And the change from his sculpture image to his self-sculpture image.The content of the text has experienced the return from exotic sentiment to historical consciousness,and has realized the transformation from Chinese standpoint to world spirit.Efforts should be made to build a harmonious communication and integration between eastern and Western cultures. | | Keywords/Search Tags: | Yan Geling, Chinese image, construct, type, theme | PDF Full Text Request | Related items |
