The Influence Of Name Compliance On Moral Judgments Under The Confucian Cultural Background

The Chinese always have paying attention to our name,because of the viewpoint that the name will affect our fate and life in the future.It’s not just a sign but also the cultural meanings are contained in our names.The names of traditional Chinese people are the symbol of status and rights.The genealogy of our Chinese can be used to distinguishing the family order and specifying the standard of behavior so that the moral consciousnesses,which would teach us about what person we want to be and should to do are formed in our brain.What’s meaning of name’s conformity is that obey the specified generation name in every generation on the basis of the ties of blood.The generation name can be used to distinguishing the order of family members and normalizing the correspondent behavior,such as: benevolent father,filial son;respect the aged and love the young and brother harmony et al.On the contrary,if you disobey the regulation of name conformity which means that someone may lacks of stable principles of people who they want to be and break the rules.Based on the fundamental analysis construct above,the study explored the problem of whether the name’s levels of conformity would be used as the criterion to moral judge.Specifically,high level name conformity compare to the low would be judged higher filial piety.Besides,facial attractiveness whether can be a variable to affect the moral judgment.The study separate 3 parts to explore the influence of name conformity to moral judgment:Experiment 1 with the self-complied name materials,which are the similar evaluate level on moral judgment.The difference name conformity types are controlled with the self-complied family context materials.Participants need to judge level of morality base on the clue of name context.The result shows that the level of moral judgment of name conformity condition was higher than disobey the rule of name conformity;Cultural context can be a variable to affect moral judgment.Experiment 2 contains the part of 2a and 2b,the experimental processes are similar with experiment 1.The differences are the experimental variables,which became the difference name conformity level and provided a low context.The conclusion is that the evaluation of moral judgment of high level name conformity is higher than low level name conformity.The effect is stable in different names.Experiment 3 increase the variable of facial attractiveness,which matches with different conformity types of name.The participants evaluated the level of morality of name and face on the whole.The result demonstrates that the effect of name and moral judgment is repeated verification.However,the facial effects are being restrained.In conclusion,the matching effect of name conformity to moral judgment was testified.The effect need to consider the influences from the cultural context and the name itself.The effect is stable and the impact of facial attractiveness is nonexistent,even the name perception can restrain the facial effect on moral judgment.
