Exploration Of Confucian Filial Piety Thought

In the process of the civilization during thousands of years , the Chinese nation has preserved its own style and distinguishing feature intact, forming broad and profound, long standing and well established filial piety culture. Confucian filial piety thought is the foundation of the traditional Chinese nation filial piety thought.Firstly, from the perspectives of history and logic unity, the thesis places importance on the connotation of Confucian filial piety thought, through which some sorting-out and thorough inquiry are made. Then from three aspects Confucian filial piety thought is expounded: At the family level, Confucius emphasized that everyone should love his way of living, should abide by his own responsibility, should regulate and coordinate the family interpersonal relationships; At the national level , Confucius looked on filial piety as the basis of loyalty to the state and the monarch, thus relating filial piety between parents and their children to political loyalty; At the social level, Confucius thought that filial piety meant not only to simply love someone, but also, by extending it, to love people, the community and the world. After this, by comparing and analyzing, it is generalized with five distinguishing characteristics: Levels at the organic integrity; Interaction among human ethical obligations; Closeness with abundant emotions; Penetration by deriving and blending; Permanence with value implication. The above-mentioned intends that, by probing into the connotation and features of Confucian thought of filial piety, a clear understanding can be attained.Secondly, the thesis scans the thought from the historical point of view and analyzes it dialectically, pointing out its duality, which contains both positive reasonable part , and negative backward factors. Due to historical and contemporary reasons, people misinterpret Confucian filial piety thought at the present time, such as one-sidedness of ideas, extremism in behavior and so on. So new measures operational to break through the plight are brought upon in the thesis.Finally, from the perspective of present-day society, the contemporary value of the positive ingredients contained in Confucian thought of filial piety is searched after: Seen from the microscopic point of view, it is an avenue to a real man, is the foundation of his behavior and is the moral basis in establishing his personality; Seen from the average point of view, it is spiritual resources in harmonizing the family and stabilizing the state; Seen from the macroscopic perspective, it provides reasonable defense value for the harmony and developing of society.
