In September 2016,the research results of "core literacy of Chinese students' development" clarified the training requirements of core literacy for students.In 2017,the newly revised curriculum standards for senior high schools(2017 edition)put forward specific requirements for cultivating senior high school students' core competence in English subjects.Thus it can be seen that the cultivation of core quality has become a new requirement for the country to cultivate talents,and the implementation of the cultivation of core quality has become the key point of educational curriculum reform.As a medium of language communication and cultural communication,English has strong instrumentality and practicability.English learning is not only to cultivate students' language ability,but more importantly to cultivate students' thinking quality,cultural awareness and learning ability through language learning and cultural edification,so as to improve students' core quality of English.At present,the research on the core literacy of English subject mainly focuses on the high middle school,and the research on the core literacy of primary school English is less.As the basic stage of English learning,primary school plays a foundational role in middle school,high school and college English learning.This paper adopts the methods of literature research,questionnaire survey and classroom observation to investigate the current situation of primary school students' core English literacy cultivation in grade 5 and 6.Firstly,744 primary school students from three urban primary schools and three rural primary schools in Z city were selected for questionnaire survey.SPSS23.0 was used for statistical analysis of the collected data.Secondly,I entered the primary school English classroom for classroom observation and case comparison.Through a series of quantitative and qualitative analysis,the following problems are finally found :(1)unbalanced cultivation of the four dimensions of primary school students' English core literacy;(2)there are gender differences in primary school students' English core literacy level;(3)lack of English extracurricular activities for primary school students;(4)teachers lack the concept of English literacy,and the use of classroom language is not standardized;(5)the interaction between family education and school training is not coordinated;(6)the imbalance of educational resources between urban and rural areas leads to differences in cultivation.In view of the current situation of the cultivation of primary school students' English core quality and the problems presented in classroom practice in Z city,the researchers put forward the following Suggestions :(1)deepening English teaching and paying attention to the cultivation of students' English thinking;(2)diversified teaching approaches and emphasis on teaching students in accordance with their aptitude;(3)enrichment of extracurricular activities,reasonabledevelopment of English extracurricular activities;(4)improve teachers' quality and specialization,and strengthen teachers' use of classroom language;(5)home-school education cooperation to promote home-school education coordination;(6)integration of regional resources,focusing on coordinating urban and rural education resources.
