Art In The Age Of Mechanical Reproduction

Photography and painting are two different kinds of visual arts.Both photography and painting come from watching,which is the recording way of watching behavior.The viewing behavior of human beings has been undergoing great changes since ancient times,especially in the field of photography and painting.Since the birth of photography,there has been an indissoluble bond between painting and kinship.Photography and painting,as two different forms of visual expression,have great differences in the way of creation,communication and viewing.However,they are also closely related to each other all the time,blending,infiltrating and promoting each other.As a recent art,photography has absorbed many nutrients from painting.At the same time,as a new technology and artistic means,also has a profound impact on the development of painting.It can be said that early photography is to a large extent the imitation of painting.Photographers treat photography as a way of viewing painting.Photography is almost similar to painting in terms of genre and is a miniature of painting history.With the rapid development of photography,more and more painters began to create and interpret paintings in a photographic way.To a large extent,the development of painting also benefited from the help of photography.Photography,as a mechanical reproduction means combining technology and art,has brought about a revolution in the way of viewing that has swept all aspects of artistic creation.Based on Benjamin's theory of mechanical reproduction and John berg's way of seeing,this paper attempts to explain the relationship between photography and painting from the standpoint of photography as the art of mechanical reproduction.
