Learned helplessness was first proposed in 1967 by American psychologist Seligman. It refers to the manipulative behavior caused by repeated failure or punishment and it is a hopeless and helpless behavior and psychological state of reality formed through learning.Theories of learmed helplessness have been widely applied in the field of education, and subjects of study include teenagers and children of all ages.In this thesis, five classes of Grade 2018 majoring in Nursing in higher vocational school are selected as subject of study.Research is carried out with methods of questionnaire,indi-vidual interview and unified academic proficiency test. After analyzing results of the questionnaires and performance of academic proficiency tests, the research finds a negative correlation relationship between the degree of learned helplessness and the academic performance. At the same time, the study conducted random individual interviews with students from the five classes.Combined with the interview situation, the previous questionnaire survey on learned helplessness and the results of academic performance analysis,it was concluded that:(1)the sense of learned helplessness is common among students, and there were a certain proportion of students with low helplessness, medium helplessness and high helplessness;(2)there is a significant negative correlation between students' learned helplessness and academic performance, that is,students with high degree of learmed helplessness have weak academic performance, and students with excellent academic performance have low degrees of learmed helplessness;(3)different students have different causes of learmed helplessness, according to specific situations of the middle school students involved in this research, the main reasons includes:opinions of future career and academic study, learning methods and habits, basic knowledge of English, classroom environment, teachers' teaching and assessment methods, students' personality traits and self?evaluation, etc.Based on the study above, two of the five classes that showed relatively smaller differences between learned helplessness and academic performance were picked out for further intervention study, with one class as experimental group and the other as control group. After putting various factors such as social, school, curriculum and students5 individuality,an intervention program was constructed that consists of one session each week and lasts 18 weeks. After the program is completed, its feasibility and effectiveness is tested through students5 academic performance. The result is a practical and feasible measure to reduce students5 learned helplessness:(l)teachers should always pay attention to students' mental status in teaching process and see the essence through phenomenon, and actively explore the reasons behind academic excellence or weakness;(2)teachers should pay attention to students' non-intellectual factors and help students develop correct values.Vocational school teachers should help students to set up a career view as soon as possible, guide students to have a correct understanding of the future work and start preparing for their future career;(3)teachers should pay attention to the application of different teaching methods in different subjects, and the same subject should be taught differently according to different students in different classes;(4)teachers should ftully understand the school curriculum and students' personality characteristics,on the basis of analyzing the curriculum and combining the actual situation of students to carry out the integration of cultural education and professional education teaching mode;(5)teachers should understand students' learning strategies and methods, timely help students correct unscientifie and unreasonable learning methods,Pay attention to the cultivation of students' teamwork spirit and communication ability, and encourage students to actively participate in classroom activities;(6)teachers should improve assessment method and combine process evaluation and summative evaluation, multiple evaluation and delay evaluation, teacher evaluation and peer evaluation to improve the students' learning efficacy and academic achie-vement and help them overcome or relieve learned helplessness.
