In the economic era of scientific and technological knowledge,lifelong learning is the basic means of human existence.Only the ability of lifelong learning can better adapt to the development of society and realize individual development.Therefore,colleges and universities must pay attention to stimulating and cultivating students' independent inquiry spirit in the process of personnel training,so that they can know how to learn and how to create,especially after they graduate from colleges and enter society,they can adapt to the rapidly changing and growing society.The development of college students' English autonomous learning ability has its own law.In view of the unique nature of students in vocational colleges,which is different from that of undergraduate students,it is of great theoretical significance and practical application value to understand the development law and influencing factors of English autonomous learning ability of the students in the vocational college.How to cultivate vocational students' English autonomous learning ability has also become the key concern of vocational colleges.This study is aimed at some non-English major students of Grade 2017 in Hunan Communication Polytechnic.Literature analysis,questionnaire survey,teacher-student visit,participatory observation and other ways are used to collect and collate a large number of teaching information and feedback primary data,which helps the researcher understand the current situation of vocational college students' English autonomous learning ability,their negative emotion,cognition and behavior,and explore the ways of helping vocational college students overcome their sense of learned helplessness and cultivate their ability of English autonomous study.A targeted teaching practice has been carried out aiming to help students alleviate their negative psychological state deriving from learned helplessness,and gradually cultivate their English autonomous learning ability.The main conclusions of this study are as follows:1.By investigating the learned helplessness of vocational college students in Hunan Communication Polytechnic from four dimensions of cognition,emotion,behavior and attribution,the fact has been found that these vocational college students have an obvious tendency to have the sense of helplessness in English learning.2.The main contents of the evaluation of college students' “English autonomous learning ability” include five aspects: understanding teachers' teaching purposes and requirements,establishing learning objectives and formulation of learning plans,using learning strategies,monitoring the use of strategies and monitoring English learning process.Based on the evaluation and analysis of vocational college students' English autonomous learning ability,it is found that these vocational college students are generally lack of English autonomous learning ability.3.The psychological state of low achievement motivation,low self-concept,negative setting and low self-efficacy have a particularly prominent influence on the cultivation of vocational college students' English autonomous learning ability in Hunan Communication Polytechnic.4.Emotional strategies as well as the combination of metacognitive strategy training and classroom group interaction cooperation can help students overcome their learned helplessness in the process of English learning and stimulate their ability to learn English autonomously.Based on the comparative analysis of students' comprehensive English achievements before and after practice,the overall achievement of students is a little better after a semester of teaching practice,although the difference is not particularly obvious.Some students can overcome their learned helplessness more effectively,and tend to be more active,more confident and more willing to cooperate with others in the process of learning English,and their autonomous learning ability has been improved to some extent.
