With the development of the times and the progress of science and technology,parents and students are no longer satisfied with in-class English reading,which poses a great challenge to English teaching.English picture books have increasingly become a kind of extracurricular reading resources for teachers because of their rich themes,vivid situations,vivid languag?es and exquisite pictures.The biggest problem of Chinese learners is the lack of language environment.English picture books give pupils an immersive English learning environment.The story plots and artistic conception presented by it can not only deepen students' understanding of the world culture,but also promote the development of their thinking and imagination.And the implied rich philosophy also has certain educational significance for students,students will fall in love with English reading imperceptibly.However,with the deepening of the teaching of English picture books,various problems are presented in practical teaching.The research is made up of literature method,questionnaire,interviews and observation and so on.It is based on the facts and statistics of the senior English picture books teaching of rural elementary school.Then problems are found,strategies are put on,teaching practice of English picture books are presented.The thesis has been divided into four parts,the first part is introduction,including the research background,purpose and significance,the related literature reviews and the core concepts definition.All will lay the foundation of the research's development.The second part is a survey on the current situation of English picture books reading in rural primary schools.Based on the survey of 85 English teachers in three rural schools in this region,the author learned about their understanding of picture books and related reading systems,the frequency of using picture books,class types,teaching methods of picture books and problems or puzzles encountered in the specific use process.On this basis,problems existing in the teaching of English picture books by rural teachers are summarized,such as difficulty in choosing picture books,teachers' insufficient ability,limited teaching practice and difficulty in promoting picture books in rural area.The third part is the suggestions on the teaching of English picture books in rural primary schools.These suggestions include:1.Deepen teachers' understanding of picture book teaching;2.Choose appropriate English picture books;3.Increase the teaching time of English picture books;4.Promote English picture book reading in rural areas.The fourth part is the practice of teaching English picture books in senior grades of rural primary schools.Guided by the PWP reading model,the teaching process of picture books is divided into pre-reading,while-reading and post-reading.
