The development of the French music in the 19 th century walked out with its own style gradually.Emmanuel Chabrier(1841-1894),a French composer in the late 19 th century and who was also a clerk in the ministry, was greatly inspired when he heard Wagner's Tristan und Isolde. He later resigned from the ministry and devoted himself entirely to composition.Chabrier liked to use half notes, grace notes and rhythmic changing structures as his compositional devices to make his music dramatic and adorable. The piano suite "Pieces Pittoresques" composed by Chabrier in 1880 is an outstanding work of him in the field of piano creation."Improvisation" is the only compostion composed in the form of sonatas, and it is also the first piano composition composed by Chabrier after the Franco-Prussian War.This work is not limited to the music style in the middle and late of 19 th century in France. It has a strong appeal and dramatic changes, and brings people a lot of imagination. This paper selected improvisation as the research object, combined with the composer's life and creation, made an in-depth analysis of the creation of improvisation, focusing on the analysis and interpretation of performance techniques,in order to help strengthen and pay attention to French piano works in this period, and made better grasp of its performance style.
