The Excavation And Expression Of Personality Traits In Character Documentaries

Art comes from life,but higher than life.As a unique form of film & TV art expression,documentary can reproduce the real life world into a visual and perceptible artistic expression.The documentary film should convey and highlight sociality,reality or humanity,which are reflected in the core figures,and the shaping of core figures depends on the excavation and performance of the personality traits.The character image and its unique connotation are the core and soul of a documentary.Apart from an attracted storyline,for an appealing documentary,it is of significance to create a three-dimensional full-character image that highlights its personality traitsPersonality traits refers to the unique and intrinsic character of figures,which is closely related to their growth experience,personality,the attitude towards people,life and work.The character trait basically determines individual behavior,and it is an effective part of personality.That is to say,the most basic element of the character image-personality,which can reflect the root characteristics and deeply express the value attribute of the character documentary.Therefore,the research on the personality traits of character documentary has its theoretical value and practical significance.This thesis uses observation method,case-study method,theoretical research method and literature analysis method to explore and present the personality traits of documentary characters.Combining my graduation work documentary Country Old Carpenter and exploring from four aspects:the character selection,the relationship between the commonality and characteristics,the visual expression strategy of characters and audiovisual techniques in post-production.I try to excavate character personality traits,presenting and summarizing the role of personality traits in excavation and performance to enhance the appeal of documentary.The character documentary Country Old Carpenter selects a rural old carpenter,Master Lu,who is a representative and typical character,to tell the story of the 70-year-old carpenter's life.Focusing on the daily record of Master Lu's work as a woodworker,the documentary expresses his pursuit of an adept woodworker,the old carpenter's personality traits are reflected by his kindness,generosity,honesty and reliability when he gets along with neighbors.The film seeks to presents the "big energy" of "tiny people" by excavating the personality traits of the character "Master Lu".
