Tony Morrison was the winner of the Nobel Prize in literature in 1993.The bluest eye is her debut and representative work.Morrisson is a writer with strong realistic concern. She has been concerned about the cultural choice and identity of black people for a long time.In the novel represented by the bluest eye, morison explores the cultural identity of African Americans through the writing of color images.Combing with the “Hybridity” of Homi K·Bhabha, this paper attempts to make an innovative interpretation in Morison's novels with the symbol of The Bluest Eye,to explore the profound meaning of the color images in the text. The paper consists of five parts: preface, three chapter of main bodies and the conclusion. In the preface, the author mainly gives an overview of Tony Morrison and his works, makes a brief statement of the research status at home and abroad, defines the concept of "color image",elaborates the research methods and main contents of this paper. In the first chapter, through the interpretation of black and white images, the author discusses the dispelling of white authority and the objective presentation of black images in the works, proposes the value of black and white color images is the dispelling of the "dependent" culture relationship between the black and the white and of the tendency that the black people are "integrate" into the culture mainstream of the white. The second chapter analyzes the image of blue and purple which the author emphasizes on.The construction of color image shows strong duality and separateness, and the writing of color image eliminates the tendency of cultural identity that "black is beautiful".The third chapter analyzes and summarizes the mixed image, which reflects the author's cultural claim: African American identity should be constructed on the basis of the reconstruction of Afro-American culture heritage,so as to realize their racial self-identity and build a mixed and diversified cultural ecology with the American society. The conclusion part summarizes the dispelling of the "dependent" cultural identity tendency and the tendency of cultural identity that "black is beautiful" in Morison's novels, reiterates the affirmation of the "mixed" cultural identity tendency. At last, this paper expounds the important role of color image in Morison's works.
