A Comparative Study Of Woody Allen Film Criticism Between China And The United States

Woody Allen is a world-renowned comedy master and a symbol of American film culture.Especially in recent years,in the context of globalization,Woody Allen's excellent works "Midnight Paris","Blue Jasmine",under the impetus of Oscar,attracted Chinese researchers.China's study on Woody Allen has proliferated.This paper collects the results of the literature searched by CNKI and EBSCO on the theme of "Woody Allen".Through the combing of 84 articles of CNKI and 153 academic journal articles of EBSCO,summarizing the development of Woody Allen's films criticism in China and America,the parallel comparison of the criticism,we can improve the research of Woody Allen,and get the disadvantages of China Woody Allen's film criticism.Compared with the United States,the development of China Woody Allen's film criticism has obvious fluctuations,which can be divided into four stages: initial recognition period,growth period,developing period and peak period.Each stage is better and better.The United States can be divided into three stages: exploration period,debilitating period and rebound period.From the exploration period,the research method of interdisciplinary theory guidance has been established,which runs through the whole development.By comparing Chinese and American comedy and tragic criticism,director's personal image criticism,narrative and style criticism,and interdisciplinary research,it is found that China's criticism is more pragmatic and the theoretical foundation is not profound.In the movie against Woody Allen in terms of understanding,the author is more inclined to film.The United States is standing on the standpoint of mass culture,borrowing theories of various disciplines such as philosophy and literature to build the cornerstone of film criticism.The essays have strong theoretical color and academic criticism feature.However,the two countries have reached a consensus on comedy of Woody Allen,and they all believe that Woody Allen's comedy has the characteristics of serious comedy.After comparing the criticism of Woody Allen between China and America,we can find that China's criticism of Woody Allen's films has certain deficiencies in narrative research,text research,research ideas and research content.Chinese research horizon of narrative andtext is narrower,and it is not as good as the United States that has a diachronic thinking and a solid theoretical foundation.As a result of a certain blind spot in Woody Allen's personal understanding,China studies his works in a more simple way,and even had some information errors in the early days.It is hoped that after the reflection of shortages,Chinese film criticism can further engage in dialogue with the world.
