The Cognitive Neural Mechanism Of Emotions In Different Cognitive Styles Affecting The Solution Of Insight Problems

As a core element of creativity,insight is of great significance to the study of creativity.Among the many factors that influence insight,emotion is an important predictor and cannot be ignored.However,there are inconsistencies about what types of emotions can promote insight problem solving.By analyzing the inconsistent results,we found that the inconsistent results of the researches may be due to the differences in the initial mental context of the individual that may lead to differences in the understanding of emotional information.Therefore,this processing affect the performance of creative tasks.Cognitive processing types is represented as the difference of information processing model which is an important initial mental context.Based on this,this study introduces the cognitive processing types and try to explore whether the cognitive processing types can regulate the influence of emotion on the insight problem and its influencing mechanism.In summary,this study used event-related potentials(ERPs)to explore the interactions between mental contexts and emotions of different cognitive processing types on insight problem solving and their time-course dynamic mechanisms.In experiment 1,We used event-related potentials to examine the joint effects and neural mechanisms of processing types and emotions on insight problem solving.After learning the heuristic logogriphs,participants were primed with global or local processing types through navon latter task.In each condition,they viewed positive or negative emotional pictures and finally finished target logogriphs.Behavioral and ERP results found that in the global processing condition,negative emotional pictures improve the insight problem solving.Both positive emotions and local processing types elicited greater N1,Indicating increased attention resources.Specially,negative emotion in global processing type and positive emotion in local processing type showed more negative N450 and more negative ERP deflection(N600-1200),indicating the enhancement of breaking mental sets and the promotion of forming novel associations.The fndings contribute to the re-understanding the relationship between emotions and insight problem solving.Experiment 2 further explored the influence of emotions on the insight problems solving for individuals of different cognitive styles.The results were similar to the results of experiment 1.In summary,the cognitive types can reverse the influence of emotion on the performances of insight problem solving,and the influence mechanism is reflected in different stages of insight.
