Lotus as a symbol and messenger of friendship,was created by the Beijing Symphony Orchestra for the 2012 London Olympic Games.It is rooted in China's excellent traditional culture and has national,contemporary and international characteristics.Therefore,the study of this work has positive humanistic significance.This paper is a musical analysis and study of Guo Wenjing's Symphonic Poem lotus.The author starts from the nationality and the times,analyzes the music material source in the work,interprets the internal connection between the pitch structure,explores its core sound concept,comprehensively understands Guo Wenjing's pursuit of the tone color of lotus,and achieves the purpose of understanding the rich cultural connotation endowed by the composer through understanding the music language used in the work.According to the structure and melody features of the tune,the whole tune is mainly divided into five sections,which have the structural functions of introduction,presentation,expansion,reproduction and ending.The internal structure of each paragraph is relatively complete,in which the core tones used to present,expand and reproduce paragraphs are all built on the five tone tonal column,with clear tonal characteristics.Based on the pitch structure,the composer designed a theme melody with clear tonality and complete structure for lotus.In addition,in the last reappearance of the theme,the human voice with highly integrated timbre and five tone melody are combined to create a hazy and dense sound space.The linear sound processing in the introduction and the end of the work has the characteristics of indoor music,and the character of each instrument is reflected in different forms in different positions.The theme melody returns to the traditional pentatonic mode and is used in combination with various pitch structures,which makes the traditional music culture glow with new style.The decorative halftone change is not only to pursue the discord and complexity of music,but also to enrich the music content and expand the music expression while the halftone movement and development.The music scene of the whole work revolves around the lotus “out of the mud but not stained”,which is intended to be raised,suppressed and pushed forward layer by layer.Finally,the lotus becomes a devout prayer and blessing,and the deepcultural connotation is interpreted in the interweaving of “harmony” and “incongruity”.Among many ancient civilizations,lotus is sacred.Guo Wenjing's Lotus has unique creative ideas.Through the description of lotus image,the author embodies rich musical connotation.At the same time of excavating the elements of Chinese traditional culture,combining modern composing techniques with “Chinese Symbols”,we can convey good wishes and show the confidence of Chinese culture.
