Research On The Epitaph Of The Official Script Of The Northern Dynasty

Epitaph calligraphy is an important part of the art of calligraphy in the northern dynasty.During the northern dynasty,the five regimes were all established by ethnic minorities.In order to consolidate their rule and ease the ethnic and religious conflicts,the rulers adopted a series of measures of sinicization reform and advocated the Confucian and buddhist culture.Filial piety culture is an important part of Confucian culture.In the context of vigorously advocating Confucian culture,the style of thick burial prevailed in the northern dynasty,so a large number of epitaphs were produced.These epitaphs are mainly written in regular script in wei style,but there are also some epitaphs in official script,which are less noticed by people.These epitaphs in official script contain a lot of historical and cultural information about the northern dynasty.Due to the small number of epitaphs in official script of the northern dynasties,the academic community lacks of relevant attention and research.According to authoritative publications and museum collection information,more than 70 epitaphs in official script of northern dynasty were collected and counted.From time to time,the number of northern wei and eastern wei is small,and the number of northern qi is the largest.From the regional distribution,it can be seen that these official epitaphs are mainly distributed in anyang of henan province and ci county of hebei province,and a few in luoyang of henan province and shandong province.These are closely related to the political and cultural policies of each regime in different periods.The northern dynasty official script epitaph calligraphy has the unique style characteristic,generally presents the seal script,the official script,the regular script mixed phenomenon,and often USES the decorative stroke.The reason for this unique appearance is that in order to prove and strengthen the legitimacy of their own regime,the ethnic minority regimes vigorously advocate the han culture in political and cultural aspects,and carry out a series of policies of hanization and restoring ancient ways,including writing and calligraphy.Because the imperial court advocated the study of traditional seal script and official script such as han and wei shi jing,it became the social fashion to restore ancient ways of writing and calligraphy at that time.Under the trend of respecting the ancient style,the style of calligraphy tends to restore ancient ways,and the use of clerical script increases gradually.However,during the wei and jin dynasties,official script was only used in very formal official occasions.Therefore,compared with the han and wei script,the official script of this period presented the characteristics of mixed style and had an important influence on the sui dynasty official script.
