Reading aloud is a pretty traditional learning method and one of the important means for EFL learners to obtain information.Learners who give particular attention to certain language materials can achieve good memorizing effect in the process of reading aloud,so that reading aloud is also considered to be an effective way to improve students' language memorizing ability, lead to the goal of recitation and obtain meaningful language input.Recitation,as an extension of reading aloud, plays such a significant role in cultivating students' English language awareness, improving their language skills and accumulating related knowledge that it has exhibited remarkable effect in English teaching. However in practical teaching, many teachers tend to ignore providing students with needed guidance of recitation, especially paying little attention to the reciting process—reading aloud. As a result of teachers' failure in making full use of the important process of reading aloud in guiding their students to recite properly, the students cannot achieve expected memorizing effect,so that they may fear of recitation for lacking effective methods. Therefore,it is a good starting point to offer reading aloud training to enhance students' memorizing and reciting effect by guiding them to pay special attention to certain language points in reading materials. This study, guided by the Input Hypothesis and the Noticing Hypothesis as the theoretical guidance, attempted to apply text signals to reading aloud instruction,so as to find out an effective way of guiding properly reading aloud for the purpose of improved recitation English texts for high school students. The study chose 50 students as research objects from two classes in Grade One of Cao County XX Senior High School in Heze City, where the author worked as student teacher, adopted the methods of comparative experiment and interview for collecting and analyzing quantitatively and qualitatively the experimental data obtained and the interview answers by adopting, aiming to answer the following two questions:(1)Whether the reading aloud training based on the text signals affect high school students' recitation of English texts? If it does,in what aspect is the effect shown?(2)What are high school students' attitudes towards reading aloud training based on the text signals? The results of the study shows that:(1)Reading aloud training based on the text signals, which is added to classroom teaching process, has had a positive effect on improving senior high school students' recitation quality, particularly in the aspects of text content completion, fluency, pronunciation and intonation, and rhythm;(2)Reading aloud training based on text signals has a positive effect on the content integrity and phonological expression of students' recitation, and specifically it showed obvious evidence in reducing omission of words and sentences, intonation and sentence stress errors, and in improving students' awareness of phonetic combination in the process of recitation;(3)This kind of reading aloud training has had a better practicability in high school English recitation practice, and it could enlighten students in terms of recitation methods, cultivate their habit of autonomously using the text signals to highlight some of the content points,so that students held a positive attitude towards this method. Therefore, text signals added to every-day reading aloud training,if having gradually become a stable training method based on text signals, will certainly provide valuable reference for senior high school English learning and teaching. This study, due to the limitations of time and the conditions, had certainly some deficiencies.Such as the size of samples was too small, the time for training was not long enough, and the results of the study might not be universally suitable for all high school students, etc. But on the whole, the study has basically achieved the expected goals, further proving that the combination of text signals and reading aloud training can effectively improve the quality of students' recitation.Meanwhile,it can provide students with guidance in English recitation methods, and also offer constructive suggestions to high school English teachers in improving their teaching design.
