The mysterious ghost and god faith derived from primitive worship,along with the progress of human civilization,are also subtly affecting Chinese traditional culture.In the course of the development of the literary history,from the ancient myths to the novels of the Ming and Qing dynasties,there are strong situation of ghosts and gods.For the southern drama of Song and Yuan dynasty,which was born out of the folk soil,its narrative and folk characteristics provide a suitable development space for situation of ghosts and gods.In the existing 17 southern drama scripts of Song and Yuan dynasty,the ghost and god situations are embodied.Therefore,the study of the ghost and god situations in southern drama of Song and Yuan dynasty has certain academic value.This thesis is divided into three chapters.The first chapter studies the cultural origin of ghost and god situations in southern drama of Song and Yuan dynasties.The thoughts of ghosts and gods was first sprouted in prehistoric human society and was the origin of spiritual belief in Chinese culture.With the development of productive forces,people prayed to the gods to guarantee their lives through sacrificial rites of“She”,and the forms of acting in the sacrificial rites of “She” and “She Huo”activities also gave birth to the creation of southern drama.The folk gods culture and the "cause and effect theory" of Buddhism enrich the image of ghosts and gods in the southern drama,thereby promoting the secularization and folk nature of ghost and god situations.During this period,the pursuit of leisure and entertainment by the citizen stratum stimulated the creation of the southern drama,and also laid the foundation for the existence of ghost and god situations in the southern drama.Meanwhile,the change of attitude towards ghosts and gods in the script can also reflect the influence of mainstream culture on the creation of southern drama.The second chapter studies the emotional connotation of ghost and god situations in southern drama of Song and Yuan dynasties.During the Song and Yuan Dynasties when the southern drama was born and developed,there were not only social stability,freedom and order,but also turbulence and bondage.The southern drama of Song and Yuan Dynasties is a form of artistic expression rooted in folk.Its most essential role is to truly reflect social reality,and it also has the function of mass media.In its works,itcontains a deep sense of persuasion and punishment.The creation can highlight the real folk life ethics.The third chapter studies the dramatic function of ghost and god situations in southern drama of Song and Yuan dynasties.The southern drama of Song and Yuan dynasties is rooted in folk soil.As the concept of the folk spirit category,for the creation of southern drama of Song and Yuan dynasties.At a shallow level,it promotes the development of the plot and reveals the fate of the characters,but a deeper step,it takes the reunion ending as the carrier of religious thought,which is a reflection of the people's belief in good and evil.
