Translation plays a very important role in today’s economy, politics and culture. The development of translation is conducive to the communication between different cultures and languages, enabling people to better understand each other and the rapidly changing and rapidly developing world. Therefore, the important role of translation cannot be ignored. As far as the two ethnic groups are concerned, the communication between them has become more and more close, and their cultures have been increasingly integrated.Any two languages are translatable between each other, but it is not possible to fully translate them effectively.Because different ethnic groups have different thinking structures and modes, different regional environments, different language structures and different cultural backgrounds, and other complexities, there will be more or less restrictive factors in language conversion, namely, translatability limits. Moreover, the limit lies in the translator. As long as the translator masters the writing ability and accumulates rich experience,he or she can find various compensation methods to express, try to narrow the limit and keep getting closer to full translatability so as to improve the quality of the translation. At present, although there are many excellent translation works in the translation circle of han people and yi languages, the translation quality can be further improved. In other words, there is no best translation, only better. Moreover, because nida does not mean "full equivalence" but "basic similarity".Therefore, functional equivalence theory provides space for the study of translatability limits, but at present, the translation field seldom studies translatability limits from this new perspective.Based on this, this paper will study it.Based on the theory of functional equivalence and taking the translation of Chinese and yi as an example, this paper discusses the limitation of translation between han language and yi language through the differences in language and culture, and proves that there are some limitations in translation between Chinese language and yi language.Secondly,in the field of translation of han language and yi languages, translation is springing up like bamboo shoots after a spring rain, and the continuous improvement of translation quality is something to be thankful for.In order to improve the translation quality between han language and yi language, the translation between the two languages should be further improved. Therefore, the author tries to seek a translation strategy to compensate the translatability limit,so as to make the translated text as close to the original text as possible,so as to further promote the communication between the han language and yi cultures. This paper mainly adopts the methods of literature research and text analysis to analyze the translatability limit in chinese-yi translation. This paper is divided into five parts. The first part introduces the background and significance of this study, summarizes the functional equivalence theory and related translatability issues,as well as the research status at home and abroad. As well as the research methods, innovations and shortcomings adopted in this paper; The second part is the first chapter of the text, which summarizes the theory of functional equivalence and the theoretical basis of translatability limit, and lays the foundation for the following writing. The third part is the focus of this paper, according to the characteristics of the two languages of Chinese and yi,the translation limit of han language and yi language is discussed from two aspects of language and culture. The fourth part in view of the han yi the limits of the problems existing in the translation, tries to put forward compensation han language and yi language means the limits of translation so as to make the source language and target language as much as possible, improve the quality of the translation,to make two han language and yi languege ethnic cultural exchanges more smoothly and was perfected, and the han language and yi language translation theory and practice have the effect of a topic, the fifth part is a summary of the article.
