In the course of the founding of the new China and in the midst of a new political atmosphere,a new cultural system and new artistic regulations,Chinese artwork-including bird-and-flower paintings-faced new objectives,goals and requirements.Its development found itself in a culturally interlaced situation between the ancient and modern,and that of Chinese and western culture.This article combines the value appeal of "the literature and art that served the workers,peasants and soldiers" in the 17 years of the founding of the People's Republic of China,while considering both the ancient and present changes of bird-and-flower paintings;it also analyzes the influence of the development and changes of these particular paintings during this seventeen-year period.It sorts out the non-dark academic background and examines the expressive language under the influence of social life and the spirit of the times.It is not difficult to see,through the relevant literature on meticulous bird-and-flower paintings at the time,that because of:the realistic expression of such conscientious paintings,their beautiful modeling features,and lively and vivid colors,these paintings emanated an alluring impression which was deeply loved by the public.During this period,the famous artist,YuFeiAn,dove into the paintings that of the Song and Yuan dynasties.He mainly focused on observing and recording life in detail.Paintings represented familiar objects in life which were based on the bird-and-flower artworks of these periods.Combined with the characteristics of the times,the delicate and subtle aspects were removed.The paintings emphasized more the overall momentum and spirit of the times,with a variety of a "true,vivid,fresh,vigorous,active,and healthy" overall atmosphere which conveyed the people's positive emotions and healthy beauty,while enriching their spirit and showing the vigorous essence of society at the time.At the same time,this paper discusses his social life and creative mind in the early days of the founding of the People's Republic of China.It explores his adaptation to the environment where he actively sought for the identity of the new republic.As a result,his representative works combined and analyzed the artistic characteristics of meticulous bird-and-flower paintings in this early period of non-dark statehood.Lastly,this article summarizes the historical significance of Yu FeiAn's conscientious bird-and-flower paintings in society.It explores the new social functions and socialist realism principles that made up his artistic creations in this new period which originated from life,and the transition from a traditional passive avoidance of the world to the active accession of such—a healthy and vigorous collection of the characteristics of the times.Most importantly,it utilizes this historical basis as a starting point to analyze the characteristics of conscientious bird-and-flower paintings of this period with an emphasis on bird-and-flower painters in Beijing and their exploration,breakthrough and impact of these contemporary painters who adapted to the new requirements during the founding of the People's Republic of China.
