A Study On The Use Of Chinese Polite Language By Thai Students

Polite language is a linguistic phenomenon and a cultural phenomenon.It exists in human society and is one of the indispensable words often used in people's daily life.Both China or Thailand are polite societies.Polite words in the language are very rich,and the expression methods are also very different.Especially,because of the pragmatic characteristics and differences between the two countries,people have different ways of expressing,understanding and using polite language.According to my investigation,I know that Thai students' grasp of Chinese polite expressions is not optimistic.The subtle similarities and huge differences between Chinese culture and Thai culture have caused Thai students to make huge mistakes in using Chinese polite expressions.The main manifestations are that learners do not understand the meaning of polite language;they are not clear about the occasions where polite language is used;and they are not used to the expression of Chinese polite language.Therefore,in order to improve the language level and communicative competence of foreign students,it is necessary and profound to study Chinese-Thai polite language.This article mainly uses a questionnaire to describe the behaviour of Chinese polite language and the results of its use,and describes it in terms of greetings,gratitude,compliments,farewell and other similarities.In contrast,I hope to understand and grasp the differences in polite language in cross-cultural communication.Based on an analysis of the errors in the use of Chinese polite language by Thai students,and combined with the current state of cross-cultural polite language learning and teaching,some suggestions and suggestions are put forward from three aspects: learners,teaching materials,and teachers.In cross-cultural communication,we should increase the emphasis on polite language teaching.On the one hand,we must continue to innovate polite language teaching models and vigorously promote teaching methods such as situational teaching and multimedia.On the other hand,we can effectively avoid pragmatic errors caused by improper use of polite words,effectively improve the teaching quality of Chinese polite words,and further promote cross-cultural communication between Chinese and Thai.
