Korean Action Film Research (2003-2018)

Accompanied by the development of Korean film industry,Korean action films are important paradigms for audiences to understand Korean culture and history,which are deeply rooted in the Korean culture and rich in the ethnic flavor,representing the highest standard of the Korean film industry.The contribution of action movies to the development of the Korean film industry is incomparable to other film types: firstly,action movies account for more than 50% of the film list,which it has more than 10 million viewers in Korean film history;Secondly,in recent years,only action movies can open up the overseas market and adding color to Korean movies.It can be considered that action movies are not only a masterpiece of Korean movie types,but also a cultural card for showing South Korea to world.This thesis analyzes and researches Korean action movies in the past fifteen years from three aspects.The first part of thesis retrospects and combs the historical development of Korean action movies.The rise and revitalization of Korean films has laid a solid industrial foundation for action movies.After the action film has experienced a period of calm and recharge,it gradually enters the period of burst and stability,and it has become a pillar type of film in the Korean film industry,which has greatly increased the local film market share.The second part of thesis analyzes the characteristics of Korean action movies from three aspects.Korean action movies are not as original as Chinese martial arts movies and Japanese samurai movies,but are a kind of gradually matured in the new wave of Asian movies after borrowing from and imitating the movies of similarly mature themes in East and West.This is a new type which combines many types of elements.This thesis uses specific cases to demonstrate that Korean action films integrated national culture and use unique violent expressions are unique in the world film landscape.The third part studies and analyzes the international communication of Korean action movies,and hopes to give some useful inspirations to Chinese kung fu movies in the reshaping period.
