Bergson once made a distinction between the skeleton and vitality of the philosopher’s theory. The skeleton means the concept that the philosopher has to use to express his thoughts, and the concept is always meant to express the philosopher’s intuition. To grasp the vital part of the doctrine is to truly understand this doctrine.Starting from this distinction, this article takes Bergson’s concept of life as the object of investigation, and understands Bergson’s ideas from three levels.First,it is an examination of the concept of life, that is,an intuitive examination as a strict philosophical method.Among them, life thinking is not only the application of intuitive methods, but also the expression of intuitiveness. The display of this point was expanded to other works by Bergson in Chapter 2.There seems to be something intertwined in duration, memory and impulse in life.It is implemented in Bergson’s text and is always shuttled between the discourse. When talking about other philosophers,Bergson called this ensuing thing the intuitive content that philosophers really want to express. Therefore, the understanding of the concept of life is not limited to Bergson’s specific expression of life issues, but should be understood from what Bergson really wants to express as his doctrine of vitality. Finally, based on the dichotomy of life, this article proposes an intuitive negation ability. The negative power of the actualized state constitutes the true meaning of stretch. The true spirit of the concept of life is hidden in Bergson ’s seemingly natural science-style discourse on life.If we do not pay attention to this,we are easily lost in the concrete discourse and miss the real intuition. |
