| Since the opening of Shanghai in 1843,with the rise of leasing,a large number of overseas Chinese have come to Shanghai to do business,and the economy has gradually developed.Some foreigners have not only brought the European way of life,but also popularized the western literature and art for Shanghai,in which "Bailemen" was born.Although it is not the first one in Shanghai,there is no more status,honor and chance in Shanghai and even in modern China.Shanghai natives spend their leisure time in theatres and teahouses.Foreigners are not used to traditional Chinese culture and entertainment,so they will hold dances on weekends and holidays as social activities.As a result,large and small dance venues in Shanghai opened one after another,and many theaters and tea gardens were even transformed into dance venues.The life style of the people of different classes in old Shanghai turned to the dance floor,so the music activities of different sizes were born in bailemon.These music activities gradually "sinicized" the music style,and bailemon has become an important venue for the development of modern Chinese music.There are many ways to find the historical materials of modern newspapers,such as Hantang modern newspaper database,Dacheng old newspaper,newspapers in the late Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China,Xueyuan Jigu,and the whole library of modern newspaper resources in China.Among them,Bao Bao exists in Hantang modern newspaper database.In addition to Bao Bao,the most influential newspaper with the largest circulation,there were many other newspapers and magazines in the period of the Republic of China that recorded the music activities of Bailemen:exquisite,women's monthly,dancing film,Xinhua Daily,Ta Kung Pao and progress daily,but the number of historical materials was far less than Bao Bao.In the database of modern newspapers and magazines of Hantang,there are 2987 pieces of Bailemen historical materials of Shenbao,and 596 pieces of them are related to music. |
