"Authorship" is an important issue in literary research. On the one hand,it constructs the concept of literature and becomes the brick of academic history. On the other hand,it is also an important factor affecting the interpretation of the text.In recent decades, the discussion of "authorship" based on the academic tradition of ancient Greece has been going on and on.This suggests that we can start from the context of Chinese culture to explore the early form of "author" and seek a deeper understanding of "authorship" in retrospect. Therefore, this paper aims to explore the presentation of the "authorship" in the early China, which is shown by the constant changes of the connotation of "zuo" and the subject behind it.Related to this is the concepts such as "heaven","past" and "sage" expressed in the early texts. In this kind of investigation,we can see that different ideas are tied together by "zuo",while "zuo" is born in the context of "past" and "present",which itself communicates with the self and history, transformation and tradition. In the investigation of oracle and bronze inscription and other texts,we regard "zuo" as an intervention and change to the original state. At a deeper level,"heaven" is regarded as the source of "zuo",and the "zuo" zhe is just an intermediary between heaven and reality.Related to this is the concept of "creation",which can be found in the ritualized context of early sacrifice. On the other hand, the connection between "zuo" and "making" is derived from its basic meaning and the relationship with "creating" should be rethought. At the same time, the emphasis of "zuo" on the action of the ritual performance weakened its own meaning of "creation",which was obscured in the later interpretation of the early ceremonial texts. When in the spring and autumn period and the warring states period,Confucius’ so-called "transmitting but not creating" is regarded as a beginning. He injected the meaning of “past” into the “zuo”,which associated with his thought about the “Tian”and the “Dao”.In the Liji, the meaning of "creation" in "zuo" is found, while the relationship between “zuo” and “shu”was given a further discussion, and the relation between "zuo" and "past" and "sage" is generated from the construction of the differentiation sequence of "shu" and "zuo".The description of Confucius’ "zuo" in Mencius makes the saying of "transmitting but not creating" become a kind of challenge, and also makes the "zuo" related to texts. At the same time,we will also see that the "zuo" zhe is also presented in the legend of creative making, and become thesubject of much quote. The relationships between creating and transmitting, the nature and culture become the focus of discussion. In short,in this era,"heaven" is gradually suspended and "man" is included in the connotation of "zuo",while the “zuo”zhe is not only a performer, but also a founder who actively intervenes in reality.During the Han dynasty, the "Past" represents the whole memory of the ancient, when countless books and memory needs to be redesign.Sima Qian’s Shiji fusion about the "zuo" of Confucius and the "zuo" of sages, and unify it in the pattern of "writing when in repression" that reveal the the contradiction between the concept of Confucian classics and the tradition of writing, which has become an important problem that Han thinkers face. When they tried to deal with the contradiction in different ways, the concept of the "zuo" and the concept of "writing" gradually realized the connection, and the ideas involved in the writing gradually became the topic of continuous discussion.
