The Influence Of Family Background And Academic Performance On Adolescents’ Sexual Attitudes

Adolescent is the key period of sexual development,facing the double changes of physical and mental aspects,it brought the great test to teenagers.In recent years,sexual health problems such as unmarried cohabitation and teenage abortion have occurred frequently,making "sexual health" of teenagers a global issue.Understanding teenagers’ sexual concept is the necessary way to find problems,so this paper is focus on the research of teenagers’ sexual concept.Using data from the study of comparative between China and Japan about teenagers’ sex consciousness,and examines the influence of family background and academic achievement to teenagers’ sexual concept.The family background includes the economic condition of family,family cultural background,the relationship status of parents and family interaction.The influence of academic achievement mainly include academic performance and whether serving as a student cadre.Measuring the teenagers’ sexual concept mainly about the concept of sexual relations,sexual behavior and homosexuality.Research findings:1.Family conditions have significant positive effects on the three aspects of teenagers’sexual concept.2.The family cultural background is significantly related to teenagers’ concept of sexual behavior,the higher educational level of parents,the teenagers’ concept of sexual behavior is more open.3.The research has confirmed the influence of parents’ emotional state on teenagers’ sexual concept,the worse the parents’ emotional state is,the more equal the teenagers’ sexual relationship concept will be and the more open their sexual behavior concept will be.4.There are two indicators for family interaction,which are "the time teenagers spend communicating with their parents every day" and "parents’ response to their children’s sexual confusion".The study found that the more time teenagers spent with their parents each day,the more conservative they were about their sexual behavior.Parents’ responses to their children’s sexual problems also influence teenagers’ sexual attitudes.5.Academic performance can affect teenagers’ concept of sexual relationship,however,there is no significant linear correlation between adolescent sexual behavior and homosexuality.6.Whether serving as a student cadre or not will affect teenagers’ concept of sexual behavior,teenagers serving as a student cadre are more open in their concept of sexual behavior.
