Core literacy requires students to have global awareness and open mind, and participate in cross-cultural exchanges actively.English,a universal language,is a vital factor for professional success as it is deemed to be one of the significant capabilities for competition in many countries around the world. It is commonly accepted that non-native speakers immerse themselves in English-speaking countries, currently thought to be the most effective way for second language acquisition.Nevertheless, the majority of elementary school students in China cannot cover the cost of traveling to a country where the citizens generally speak English. The students in China lack the environment to learn English by using English in their daily lives. With the rapid development and innovation of technology, especially the development and popularization of virtual reality technology and artificial intelligence technology, education is experiencing a technology-driven change, and a new education model supported by modern educational technology theory is developing vigorously. Most students are interested in all kinds of educational games.Meanwhile, the new technology is changing the way of study.Virtual reality technology, because of its unique sense of reality, allows learners to experience learning in a specific simulated three-dimensional environment. And its unique characteristics of immersion, interaction and imagination have specific advantages for knowledge that needs spatial sense and interaction. Therefore, this study aims to demonstrate how to construct an effective interactive English learning environment to promote the motivation and the level of English learning for Chinese primary school students,so as to enhance their future competitiveness. This study focuses on three key questions:one, the study of learning motivation promotion mechanism in VR educational games. Two,the study of the impact of scaffolding and basic knowledge on learning motivation in VR educational games.Three, the study of the impact of different VR educational games on learning motivation. In order to answer the above three questions, this study chose the knowledge from English textbook for the fourth and fifth grades in primary school and developed a virtual English learning game.Under the guidance of experimental research, three quasi-experimental studies are conducted. Both quantitative research and qualitative research were adopted in this study. The main work of this study includes the following three aspects:First, the theoretical framework of motivational factors in a virtual reality environment was explored.Based on the existing research theoretical results and Core literacy, this paper established a hypothetical model of motivation mechanism in the virtual reality game through literature reading and analyzing, and then validated the model. The results show that assessment, technology, interaction, immersion and imagination play an important role in promoting students' motivation in a VR learning environment. Moreover, assessment and technology are the foundation which can promote students' motivation.Immersion and imagination promote students' motivation directly, while interaction can affect the immersion in the VR learning environment.Secondly,a virtual reality educational game based on scaffolding support is developed.Based on the results of the first research question and motivation theory, this paper studied the influence of scaffolding and basic knowledge on learning motivation in virtual reality educational games. The results show that learners can achieve higher achievement through VR game learning with scaffolding support.Although the scaffolding in the VR game increased the amount of information,it didn't affect learners' learning efficiency.Through the analysis of learning motivation,it was found that adding scaffolding to VR games didn't affect learners' learning motivation. The learning motivation of high-score group in VR game is higher than that of the low score group, and the evaluation in the enjoyment dimension of games is also higher than that of low-group studentsThirdly,it explores the influence of different virtual reality learning games on learning motivation and achievement.Based on the results of the second question and ICAP interaction model,a multi-user blending virtual learning game is designed and developed based on,and then an empirical study is conducted. The results show that learners' learning motivation in the single-user virtual learning environment and multi-user hybrid virtual learning environment is higher than that in traditional classroom learning, and their learning achievement is also higher than that in traditional learning methods. And learners have a higher recognition of the multi-user blending learning environment. In the single-user virtual learning environment, learners are more interested in its fun and entertainment In the multi-user blending virtual learning environment, learners pay more attention to the improvement of cooperative ability and learning achievement.
