As teachers of education and teaching,university teachers have an "educational power" that directly affects the quality and reputation of higher education.Under the new era and social needs,it is very urgent to improve the quality of teachers and higher education through faculty professional development.In order to meet the new challenges of the popularization of higher education in Japan and the reduction of the age-appropriate population,and to change the tendency of former Japanese university teachers to "Focus on research" and focus on teaching,Japan began the process and construction of FD institutionalization in the 1990 s,and a series of FD activities have been implemented in various universities to effectively promote the professional development of faculty with obvious results.In contrast,although many teacher development centers have been established in the professional development of higher education in China,the standardized and institutionalized FD operation mechanism has not yet been formed.In view of this,this research comprehensively applies the methods of literature analysis,comparative research and case studies,and summarizes the relevant topics of the professional development of faculty in Japanese universities.By sorting out the specific operation and implementation of FD in the six universities in the case,it is intended to find out and reflect on the effectiveness and problems of FD in Japan,and apply it to the professional development of faculty in China.On the basis of previous research,this paper introduces and reviews the background and development of Japanese University and FD system,which is divided into three stages: "Free Development Period","quasi-institutionalization" and "institutionalization",secondly,the author gives a general introduction to the relevant policies and regulations of the Japanese FD system,including the economic support given by the Japanese government for the development of FD,from the national,regional and university levels,it presents the overall development situation of FD at present,while from the university level,Japanese FD implementation organization belongs to the university-led type,this study takes the FD propulsion organization of six representative universities such as Kyoto University and Nagoya University as an example,and conducts a more in-depth study on the objectives,main tasks and implementation contents of the FD center,this paper attempts to analyze the differencesbetween the public and private Japanese University systems due to the differences in concepts,policies,and teachers' awareness,finally,based on the above research,the author summarizes the experience and deficiency of the development of FD system in Japanese University,seeking to get some beneficial enlightenment from it for the professional development of faculty in our country,combining with our country's reality,the author thinks we can promote the professional development of faculty in Chinese from the aspects of teachers' internal drive,institution setting,FD activity form and resource integration and so on.
