The interbank business of the bank experienced explosive growth after 2009 and became the third largest business of commercial banks except for private businesses and commercial banks. Some commercial banks even accounted for more than the traditional private businesses or commercial banks business.Commercial banks actively develop their interbank business mainly to evade regulation. In particular, commercial banks,by cooperating with other financial institutions, can bypass the control of interest rate cap and absorb more external funds. They can also evade the collection of deposit reserves and save on capital costs. At present, there is not much research on interbank business and many studies are not deep.In the existing research, certain explanations are given to commercial banks' efforts to develop non-traditional deposit and loan business, such as financial innovation, regulation avoidance and profit-driven.However,many researches are only based on theoretical analysis, with few empirical studies.Only the empirical analysis also has fewer samples and a single empirical approach. This article uses theoretical analysis and empirical analysis to study the impact of interbank business on the performance and risk of commercial banks. In theoretical analysis, this paper reviews the stage, size and development of interbank business, and analyzes in depth the mechanism of interbank business impacting on bank performance and risk.In empirical analysis, this paper analyzes 16 listed companies with more complete data in 2006-2016,calculates the efficiency index of commercial banks by using Malmquist index method, and empirically analyzes the impact of interbank business on the performance of commercial banks through panel data model.Commercial banks have obtained higher returns while engaging in intermediary business and also bear some extra risks. The following empirical analysis mainly focuses on the influence of interbank business on the risks of commercial banks. In this paper,we first use the risk Z value to measure the risk-taking status of commercial banks and use the principal three major risks faced by commercial banks to synthesize a single comprehensive index to measure the risk.Through empirical research, this paper concludes:(1)The expansion of interbank assets in China's listed banks is conducive to the improvement of bank efficiency, indicating that the listed banks in our country improve their efficiency by optimizing the allocation of interbank assets;(2)The proportion of interbank business in commercial banks The larger the risk exposure, the lower the level of supervision due to interbank business and the provision of capital for inter-bank business risks are insufficient. If the banks engage in interbank business for too much, their exposure to risk is bound to be greater.
