Research On The Impact Of Cross-border Search Strategy And Absorptive Capacity On Dual Capacity Structure

Due to the rapid development of technology and changes in the business environment,learning and innovation cooperation among organizations has become more common in recent years.Effective use of external innovation resources has become a key for companies to remain competitive,and seeking the external innovation resources across the organizational boundaries to make up for the lack of their own innovative resources has become the choice of enterprises.In a dynamic competitive environment,technological capabilities are the cornerstone for companies to maintain market competitiveness.,and enterprises need to balance both exploration and development capabilities,so how to improve the level and structure of ambidexterity structure is the key link in the development of technological capabilities of enterprises.However,the existing researches mostly discuss the impact of boundary-spanning search on the ambidexterity capacity of enterprises,but lack of researches on the relationship between boundary-spanning search strategy and enterprise ambidexterity structure.This paper mainly studies the impact of boundary-spanning search strategies(boundary-spanning search breadth and boundary-spanning search depth)on ambidexterity capacity structure,what's more,it also explores the moderate role the absorptive capacity(potential absorptive capacity and realistic absorptive capacity)plays in the relationship between boundary-spanning search strategy and ambidexterity capacity structure.This study mainly raises the following questions:(1)There are conflicts between the two innovative ways in the enterprise in terms of organizational structure,cultural background,and technology track,can the boundary-spanning search strategy of enterprises improve the ambidexterity capacity structure within the enterprise,which is conducive to the balance and interplay of ambidexterity capacity?(2)Faced with the problem of searching depth and searching for “optimal open point”,can we adjust the relationship between search strategy and ambidexterity capacity structure by improving the absorption capacity ?This paper uses the samples of manufacturing enterprises in Shandong Province,Guangdong Province and Zhejiang Province with relatively developed economy and relatively active economic activities,covering information technology,pharmaceutical,agrochemical,energy,electromechanical,biomedical and semiconductor industries.After doing data analysis,the following results were founded:(1)Boundary-spanning search breadth has a significantpositive impact on the balance and interplay of ambidexterity capacity;(2)Boundary-spanning search depth has a significant positive impact on the ambidexterity capacity balance,but the positive effect on ambidexterity capacity interplay has not been confirmed.(3)Two search strategies interaction have a significant effect on ambidexterity capacity balance and interplay;(4)In the process of the search strategy's influence on the ambidexterity capacity,the absorptive capacity is introduced as the moderator,in which the potential absorptive capacity plays a positive role in the relationship between the boundary-spanning search breadth and the ambidexterity capacity balance,moreover,the realized absorptive capacity plays a role of reverse moderating effect on the relationship between the boundary-spanning search depth and the ambidexterity capacity.This study not only deeply explores the innovation behavior of enterprises under dynamic environment,but also provides a theoretical basis for enterprises to improve their capacity structure,improves their innovation ability and exercise sensitivity to the external environment,and also points out the direction for the formulation of enterprise innovation policy.In the case of limited internal innovation resources,enterprises should actively expand the search boundary,deepen the exchange of information and knowledge with external knowledge sources,rationally allocate scientific and technological resources within the enterprise,and improve the level of absorptive capacity and external knowledge utilization efficiency.So as to promote the re-allocation of innovation resources within the enterprise and improve the ambidexterity capacity structure,ultimately promote the development of innovation capabilities and the maintenance of lasting market competitiveness.
