The concept of corporate social responsibility was emerged in western developed countries in the early 20 th century. After the 1990 s,under the tide of economic globalization, more and more multinational companies have started to audit the labor treatment, working environment and product quality of domestic suppliers, which became the initial way for corporate social responsibility(CSR)to enter China.Since then, with more and more attention paid to environmental protection, labor rights and consumer rights protection, governments at all levels have become the main force to promote and supervise CSR.At the same time, the deepening of economic globalization has put forward higher requirements for the technological innovation ability of enterprises.Exploring the relationship between corporate social responsibility and technological innovation has become a hot topic for scholars, but these studies have not reached a unified conclusion. In addition,as the external environment of enterprises production and business operation, the product market competition inevitably affect the implementation of corporate social responsibility.Although many scholars have recognized that the different degree of competition in the industry result in the differences in the corporate social responsibility, but there is still a lack of in-depth research on the mechanism and relationship between industry competition and corporate social responsibility.Based on the above analysis, this paper try to study the impact of CSR on the technological innovation from the perspective of product market competition and it has the realistic guiding significance to the enterprise which at different levels of competition to fulfill their social responsibilities and improve their technological innovation ability better. This paper firstly combed and summarized the relevant domestic and international research results.Combined with stakeholder theory, product market competition theory, signaling theory,principal-agent theory and industrial organization theory, this paper put forward the research hypothesis and then construct the corresponding regression model. The empirical test is carried out by taking Shanghai and Shenzhen A-share non-financial listed companies as research samples and the paper finally draw a conclusion and put forward effective policy suggestions according to the conclusion. The research results of this paper show that:1.There is a significant positive correlation between CSR and technological innovation, indicating that more CSR will promote enterprises to carry out technological innovation activities.2.Product market competition and corporate social responsibility have an inverted U-shaped relationship, indicating that there is a critical value between product market competition and corporate social responsibility. When the intensity of product market competition does not reach a certain critical value, the degree of the fulfillment of corporate social responsibility will increase with the increase of the intensity of product market competition. However, when the intensity of product market competition exceeds the critical value, the degree of the fulfillment of social responsibility will decrease with the increase of the intensity of product market competition.3.Product market competition can negatively regulate the positive impact of corporate social responsibility on corporate technological innovation.Compared with industries with weak competition in product market,in industries with strong competition, the impact of CSR on technological innovation is more obvious, which indicates that the impact of CSR on technological innovation becomes greater as the intensity of product market competition increases.
