Manufacture plays an important role in China's comprehensive national strength.To build our country into a manufacturing powerhouse,"Made in China 2025" puts forward the basic policy of "innovation-driven and talent-oriented".With the continuous advancement of China's production-university-research-application integration policy,enterprises,colleges and research institutes are increasingly closely linked,and many scholars who focus on technology have become an important member of the company's executives.These academic technical background executives compared with pure technical background executives,more professional,deeper thinking innovation ability,more academic resources to support and more positive understanding of the current technological frontier.At the same time,academic technical background executives help to deepen the company with universities and research institutions and contacting other innovative body,in order to better follow the integration of production,with policy benefit sharing,complementary advantages and risk-sharing principle for technical innovation.Researches have already analyzed the influence of academic background executives on enterprise innovation,but nobody made a segmentation.So does the addition of these senior executives with academic and technical background really benefit the innovation of the company,and how does it affect the innovation of the company?This paper attempts to explore these issues.In this paper,we use the manufacturing listed companies as samples to study the academic technical background executives' influence on corporate innovation from 2008 to 2017.By collecting data of senior executives' background characteristics and manually screening out senior executives with academic and technical backgrounds,the paper analyzes their influence on corporate innovation activities,and finds that the proportion of senior executives with academic and technical background in the senior management team has a significant positive correlation with the patent application situation.At the same time,there is a significant positive relationship between the two,no matter in the company with high or low operating risk or in the company with strong or weak management short-sightedness.The research results show that senior executives with academic and technical background contribute to the company's innovation,and senior executives with academic and technical background will make the company have a higher risk tolerance and a lower degree of short-sightedness of the management,which can promote the company's innovation.After the endogeneity test and the robustness tests such as change variable measurement method,the research conclusions of this study are still valid.This paper studies the influence of senior executives with academic and technical background of listed companies on corporate innovation,and enriches the research literature on the influence of senior executives' background characteristics on corporate innovation.At the same time,the research results of this paper are helpful to guide companies to make better use of internal and external resources to carry out innovation activities,and have certain enlightenment and Suggestions for companies to carry out innovation activities and improve their competitiveness.
