NAFTA renegotiation is one of the major events on the international stage in the past two years, and its importance to Canada is self-evident.After repeated contests and games, the three parties finally replaced the North American Free Trade Agreement with the new version of the US-Mexico-Canada Agreement. This paper adopts the method of case study to conduct a comprehensive examination and analysis of Canada's strategy in NAFTA renegotiation. In the process of the renegotiation,Canada has adopted a different strategy toward Mexico and the United States within the trilateral framework of NAFTA--uniting Mexico and adopting a seemingly contradictory but factually clear negotiation strategy toward U.S.Its negotiation strategy toward U.S.can be attributed to several contradictions: reactive and proactive, ambivalent but resolute, while also adopting a multilateral framework to avoid two-way confrontation with the United States. This strategy is the result of the interaction of various factors within Canada and abroad. The domestic perspective includes both the progressive trade policy adopted by the Trudeau government and the development reality of asymmetric interdependence between Canada and U.S.From a foreign perspective, the US's special “check-and-balance” political system also provides an opportunity for Canada to take the initiative to seek breakthroughs. At the same time,Canada's multilateral practice for many years is considered to be a effective tool to counter the absolute pressure of U.S.therefore,Canada consolidated its alliance with Mexico by expanding cooperation. The NAFTA renegotiation has already brought about impacts on North America, the US global strategy, and even the future global economic development.Regardless of the outcome,China should benefit from Canada's response in the renegotiation process and serve the future of China's economic development.
