The advancement of information technology and the improvement of science and technology have prompted the rapid development of China’s e-commerce industry. The developed online shopping environment has attracted more residents to choose online shopping. The rapid growth of online shopping has led to the rapid increase of distribution pressure in the express logistics industry in China. How to construct an efficient distribution mode and improve the efficiency of terminal distribution service is the key to relieve the pressure of logistics distribution. In this context, major logistics enterprises have begun to build express service facilities. They attempted to base on the end of logistics and seeked effective means to solve the distribution problem.Pick-up points arise at the historic moment because of the transformation of urban society and consumption structure. This is in order to optimize the layout of city express pick-up points, realize the equalization of express terminal services, improve the fairness of residents enjoying express self-service,and become an important issue facing the construction of express pick-up points. Therefore, based on POI data of pick-up points in Hangzhou in the east,Zhengzhou in the middle and Xi’an in the west of China, this paper uses questionnaire survey, mathematical statistics, spatial analysis and other methods to analyze the spatial layout and micro-location characteristics of urban pick-up points.Focusing on Yanta District of Xi’an City, combining with social and economic factors and residents’ self-lifting behavior factors, this paper explores the layout mode of urban express pick-up points from the perspective of community life circle, and then puts forward optimization countermeasures and suggestions. The results show that:(1)Microscopic location characteristics:(1)Urban pick-up points management mode is divided into three categories: franchise mode,Part-time mode and joint-venture mode.At present, franchise mode dominates;(2)Community is the main service object, followed by commercial blocks and campuses;(3)Location selection follows the principle of proximity, and the distance from service object increases first and then decreases.Eighty percent of the pick-up points are within 250 meters of their clients.(2)Quantitative characteristics: The proportion of pick-up points in case cities varies significantly, ranging from 0.1 to 3.5 per 10,000 people. Moreover, the number of pick-up points in each region is positively proportional to land use area,GDP,population, number of street offices and other factors.(3)Spatial layout characteristics: The spatial distribution of pick-up points in different cities is unbalanced.Distribution shows a trend of expanding from the main urban area to the surrounding area, and obvious agglomeration phenomenon has formed in the main urban area. The direction of its spatial distribution is consistent with the direction of urban development, showing the trend of "northeast-southwest".(4)Through the investigation of residents’ picking-up behavior in Yanta District of Xi’an City,we find that:(1)Spatially,the layout of pick-up points is consistent with the development of the jurisdiction. Its service scope can only meet the needs of the community circle for 15 minutes, and is affected by the environment of community construction.Residents of commercial community, old community and policy-oriented community have slightly different choices of business places for pick-up points.(2)In terms of time, urban residents tend to complete the picking-up within 10 minutes’ walk, and most of them choose to pick up delivery after 6 p.m.(5)Based on the theory of life circle, this paper puts forward that the layout of express pick-up points should follow the principles of people-oriented,coordination and local conditions. Its layout pattern should be combined with the development planning of various administrative districts.Cooperation with other public facilities should be strengthened to respect the needs of urban residents. This study has positive theoretical and practical significance for improving the spatial planning of emerging cities such as urban pick-up points.
