The urban fringe area is a fusion and gradual area with special social, economic and demographic characteristics between urban and rural areas. This field is not only the frontier of geography research, but also the focus of urban planning, sociology and other disciplines.Accurately identifying the urban fringe area and studying the law of spatial evolution can lay a foundation for further exploration of the social structure, landscape pattern and development gradient of the marginal area. Therefore, this paper takes Urumqi as an example.Based on the POI data from 2009 to 2017,based on the spatial identification of urban fringe areas by nuclear density analysis, the three points in 2009,2013 and 2017 are divided into two.In this paper, the spatial distribution, extension type, expansion intensity and industry tendency of Urumqi urban fringe area are studied in four aspects, and the influence factors of spatial expansion in urban fringe area are further explored by grey relational analysis. In order to provide reference for Urumqi's urban development in the context of the Belt and Road Initiative. The entire study can be divided into five parts. The first part of the introduction mainly includes the research background and significance, the related literature review at home and abroad,as well as the research ideas and research methods to lead to the use of POI data to identify urban fringe areas. The second part studies the regional overview and data sources, including the general situation of urban development in Urumqi, the selection of research areas, and the acquisition of research data,to explain the reasons for choosing Urumqi as the research area, and to introduce the POI data. The third part is the study of spatial recognition and extension law in the urban fringe area of ??Urumqi.Among them, the attempt to use the POI data to identify the urban marginal area of ??Urumqi by the method of nuclear density analysis is the core and foundation of the whole research. The fourth part analyzes the influence degree of social economy on the spatial expansion of the urban fringe area of??Urumqi through the gray correlation analysis, from the perspective of the urban areas in the marginal area and the urban fringe area and the urban core area. The fifth part is the conclusions and recommendations. It mainly based on the research results, puts forward relevant suggestions, and finds the shortcomings in the current research.Through research, the paper draws the following conclusions:(1)POI data can take into account the characteristics of socio-economic data and remote sensing impact data, and identify the spatial extent of urban fringe areas.(2)The urban fringe area of ??Urumqi increased from 173 square kilometers to 353 square kilometers between 2009 and 2017.The western and northeastern regions are the main directions for the expansion of urban fringe areas. The Midong District and the Toutunhe District have become marginal areas. In the main urban areas, the urban fringe area in the two urban areas has increased from less than10% in 2009 to 40% in 2017.During the period of 2009-2013,the expansion type of the urban fringe area of ??Urumqi was mainly based on outward expansion. The urban fringe area expanded to an area of ??192 square kilometers, accounting for 57.49% of the total area of ??the urban fringe area in 2013.The ratio of the area of ??the three areas of outward expansion, internal filling and conversion core is 6.19:4.58:1.During 2013-2017,the expansion of the urban fringe area of ??Urumqi is mainly internal filling, and the internal filling area is 290 square kilometers, which is 2017.The annual urban fringe area is 82.40%.The ratio of the area of ??internal filling, outward expansion and conversion of the core is11.15:2.39:1.During 2009-2013,the expansion intensity of the new urban area and Toutunhe District is 5.43 and 2.36 respectively, which is a high-speed expansion,Tianshan District. The expansion strength of Shuimogou District is 1.80 and 1.52,respectively.For rapid expansion, the expansion strengths of Shayibak and Toutunhe Districts are 0.77 and 0.44,respectively,which are medium-speed expansion and low-speed expansion. In the 2013-2017 period, only the Toutunhe District was a high-speed expansion area with an expansion strength index of1.49,and the remaining urban areas were all low-speed expansion. In general, the expansion intensity of urban fringe areas in the first phase is significantly higher than that of the second stage. In the second stage, the urban expansion intensity index is small or negative. And the urban areas and industries did not show a fixed preference during the entire study period.(3)In the perspective of various urban areas,Tianshan District and Shayibak District have strong correlation with per capita GDP and total population;new urban areas have strong correlation with fixed asset investment and regional GDP;and total sales of Midong District and social consumer goods The relationship between fixed asset investment and tertiary industry output value is strong;the correlation between Toutunhe District and the secondary industry output value, industrial output value, and per capita GDP is strong;Shuimogou District and totalretail sales of consumer goods and per capita income of farmers and herdsmen The correlation degree is strong;in the perspective of comparing the core areas of the city, the urban fringe area has a greater correlation with the proportion of the secondary industry, the total retail sales of social consumer goods, the output value of the secondary industry and the total industrial output value, while the core area of the city is the same. The output value of the three industries, the total retail sales of social consumer goods, the non-rural population and the total population are highly correlated.
