The rapid development of Chinese economy is accompanied by the increase of urbanization and industrialization levels, however, the deep reason behind this is that a large number of agricultural labor force has been transferred into the industrial sector and participate in the production.Since China has a dual economic structure, the migration of agricultural labor force, which comes from a relatively capital-deficient area and transfers into a relatively capital-abundant area, can lead to the economic growth according to the neo-classical economic growth theory. While in recent years, along with the Chinese economic restructuring and adjustment, some social problems such as so-called “shortage of agricultural workers” occurred and therefore exploring the relationship between the agricultural labor force migration rate and the economic growth rate is helpful for making suggestions for the government that wants to deal with these social dilemmas. This paper based on the reality and elucidates the internal mechanism behind the agricultural labor force migration and the economic growth firstly, then establishes some empirical models to identify the quantitative relationships between the agricultural labor force migration rate and the economic growth rate by using the data of 31 Chinese provinces from 1978 to 2017 and the times series data of China from 1978 to 2017.It finds that the change of agricultural labor force rate can promote the economic growth rate for all industrial sectors except the effect of agricultural department is unclear, besides, the economic growth rate can lead to the migration of agricultural labor force in next period positively. Finally, according to the conclusion of empirical analysis, this paper puts forward some pertinent suggestions in different perspectives for the government to address related problems.
