Since the implementation of the "Belt and Road" initiative in China,it has been widely recognized by the international community. At the party's 19 th National Congress, the state officially incorporated the "Belt and Road" initiative into the party constitution, and pointed out that to promote the formation of a new pattern of comprehensive opening,we must focus on the "Belt and Road" construction.Foreign direct investment(FDI),as an important component of the "introduction" in the open structure, has brought development funds and technical support to cities along the route and promoted the development of cities along the route. At the same time, the new urbanization as another major development strategy of China is also an important development idea for cities along the "Belt and Road".Whether there is an interactive relationship between the two is worth exploring. In this context, this thesis selects 36-node cities along the "Belt and Road" as a sample, and empirically analyzes the relationship between FDI and new urbanization development along the route. The thesis focuses on the relationship between FDI and new urbanization along the "Belt and Road" based on the theory of the Big-Push.First of all, this thesis reviews and sorts out the literature research on the relationship between FDI and urbanization or new urbanization at home and abroad.Secondly, with the help of the large impetus theoretical model, the interaction mechanism between FDI and urbanization is expounded. The mechanism of FDI's role in urbanization and the mechanism of urbanization on FDI.Thirdly,a new urbanization index system is constructed from the four dimensions of population, economy, society and environment. It will be calculated by the entropy method.According to the calculation results, the current situation of urban new urbanization development along the "Belt and Road" shows that the level of new urbanization along the "Belt and Road" cities is constantly improving. The overall development level of cities along the "One Road" is higher than that of "One Belt" cities, but the level of urban new urbanization in the same economic belt is uneven. At the same time, from the perspective of FDI inflows along the cities along the route, the overall scale of FDI in the cities along the "Belt and Road" continues to expand, but it also shows that the coastal economic belt is higher than the inland economic belt. There is a significant gap in the per capita level of FDI in the same economic zone. Then,it reveals the relationship between FDI and new urbanization development along the "Belt and Road" from different angles by constructing the simultaneous equation model between FDI and new urbanization. Finally, based on the conclusions, the policy recommendations for the cities along the "Belt and Road" in attracting capital and promoting new urbanization are given. The results show that:(1)From the perspective of the relationship between FDI and new urbanization, whether it is from the overall perspective of the "Belt and Road" or the perspective of sea and land economy, there is a significant mutual promotion between FDI inflows and new urbanization in cities along the route. However, there are sea and land differences in the degree of influence.(2)From the dimensions of urbanization,FDI has a significant positive impact on the new urbanization of all dimensions along the "Belt and Road" cities, and the degree of impact shows economic urbanization> social urbanization> population urbanization> environmental urbanization pattern. In terms of the sub-line,FDI has a significant role in promoting the urbanization of the four dimensions of the "one belt" and "one road" cities, but the influence coefficient is higher than the cities along the "One Road".(3)From the perspective of the impact of new urbanization on the inflow of FDI,the improvement of the level of economic urbanization, social urbanization and environmental urbanization on the "one belt" is conducive to the inflow of FDI,but the role of population urbanization in promoting FDI inflow is not significant. In the cities along the "One Road",only economic urbanization has a significant positive impact on the inflow of FDI,and the impact of urbanization on the other three dimensions on FDI is not significant.(4)The impact of various control variables on the new urbanization and FDI construction along the "Belt and Road" cities also shows significant sea-land differences.Government intervention has a greater impact on the four dimensions of new urbanization in "one way" cities.Financial development has effectively promoted the population, economic and social development of cities along the "one Belt",and promoted the urbanization of the four dimensions in the "one Road" region.Industrial development has a significant positive impact on economic development, social construction and the environment in the "One Belt" region. In the "One Road" region, industrial development only promotes environmental urbanization, has no significant impact on economic urbanization and social urbanization, and has a significant negative impact on the urbanization of the population.Based on the empirical results, the "One Belt,One Road" city should continue to expand the scale of investment, and at the same time further promote the construction of new urbanization in the region from the perspective of multidimensional coordinated development.
