The global financial and economic crisis has broken the old international competition. In the context of the fourth industrial revolution, new technologies are emerging at an unprecedented speed and scale, which makes the competition between countries more intense and cruel. All countries are eager to allow their countries to seize the opportunities in the new round of competition by strengthening national governance and adjusting policies.Under this circumstance,it is necessary to analyze the transmission path of the elements of international competitiveness determination. At present, the research on competitiveness mostly analyzes the"tree" relationship between each competition decision factor and the competitiveness index. This paper mainly explores the "mesh" relationship between each competition decision factor and the global competitiveness index. The combination of the ring graph method and the combined structural equation model can not only avoid prior subjective judgment, but also estimate the mesh path and causal effect between variables, which is superior.Based on WEF's comprehensive competitiveness evaluation index system, the population, land, industrial structure, labor force and the gap between the rich and the poor are selected as the control variables.According to the World Economic Forum, the 144 countries are divided into developed countries according to the different incomes. The economy, the developing economies and the backward economies study the transmission paths of the international competitiveness of the three major economies.Firstly, the VAR model is established for the global competitiveness index,12 pillars and control variables to obtain the matrix of residual correlation coefficients. Then, the directed acyclic graph is used to identify the causal relationship between the global competitiveness index of different economies and each element. Finally, the structural equation model is used to estimate the conduction path coefficients of the three major economies, and the similarities and differences between the three are compared. The empirical evidence provided by the study helps to discover the development laws of countries at different stages and provides policy implications for China to effectively improve the level of international competitiveness.Through analysis, the following conclusions are obtained:(1)the basic factors of the competitiveness of the developed economies are relatively large;(2)the higher the degree of development of the country, the less dependent on the single factor;(3)for the developed economies,The direct transmission coefficient of innovation to the competitiveness index is the largest, and the technical preparation and business maturity have a greater effect;(4)the competitiveness index of the economy in the development stage and the backward stage is more dependent on the basic conditions of the country;(5)In developed economies and developing economies, the effects of commodity market efficiency, market size and institutional factors on the competitiveness index are small or even zero, and the situation of backward economies is slightly different.According to the characteristics of the path of international competitiveness of developed economies and developing economies, and in connection with the development status of China, the following suggestions are proposed to improve China's international competitiveness:(1)promote technological innovation;(2)strengthen technology promotion;(3)Optimize the business environment;(4)promote primary education and health care;(5)optimize the macroeconomic environment.
