Vertical Specialization And Export Technology Content

High-tech manufacturing is China's strategic leading industry,and it is an important force to lead the manufacturing industry to the mid-to-high end and helping develope economic quality.For more than forty years since the reform and opening up,continuous development is the norm in high-tech manufacturing.However,relying on the advantages of labor costs,it has integrated the global division of labor system by processing trade.While achieving rapid development,it is also facing a large The problem of not strong,the level of export technology content is far lower than the world's manufacturing powers such as the United States,Japan and Germany.Under the dual pressure of rising trade protectionism and the gradual decline of China's labor cost advantage,how to improve the technological content of China's high-tech manufacturing exports is the key to development.Participation in vertical specialization is the main way for the development of high-tech manufacturing,and it is an important factor that affects the level of technical content of exports.Most of the existing literature has studied the impact of participation in vertical specialization on the technical content of exports.The effect of participating in vertical specialization in different ways on the technical content of exports.At the same time,in terms of measuring the technical content of exports,most of them are measured by the proportion of trade exports.In the context of global division of labor,the measurement indicators still have the possibility of further improvement.This paper constructs a new indicator of export technology content measurement from the perspective of trade value added.Based on the OECDworld input-output data,measures the export technology content of China's high-tech manufacturing and the level of forward and backward vertical specialization from 2005 to 2015,and studies the impact of vertical specialization on export technology content of China's high-tech manufacturing.The study found that:(1)Forward participation in vertical specialization promoted the increase of export technology content of high-tech manufacturing industry,while the backward participation in vertical specialization inhibited the increase of export technology content;(2)After distinguishing technology level and trade mode,it was find that: The participation in vertical specialization has a great inhibitory effect on the manufacturing of medium and low technology and processing trade.The forward participation in vertical specialization has a significant role in promoting the export technology content of high-tech and non-processing trade manufacturing;(3)Forward vertical specialization promotes the upgrading of high-tech manufacturing export technology by enhancing innovation capability,and backward vertical specialization reduces the technological content of high-tech manufacturing exports by suppressing innovation capability;(4)The improvement of foreign investment level has significantly promoted the improvement of the technological content of China's high-tech manufacturing exports.The research in this article supports to a certain extent China's current policy of further strengthening general trade and encouraging foreign investment in new and high-tech fields,giving full play to the urgency of foreign investment in promoting industrial upgrading and high-quality foreign trade development.
