In the international community,the concept of sustainable development and the concept of social responsibility have become the consensus of all walks of life.The fulfillment of corporate social responsibility isnot only out of morality,but also an important strategic choice to gaincompetitive advantage and corporate reputation.However,the academic community has not done enough research on "how enterprises improve their performance through social responsibility".On the one hand,the existing researches are divided on the relationship between social responsibility and corporate performance,and there are many possible correlations such as positive correlation,negative correlation or non-linear correlation.On the other hand,scholars focus on explaining CSR issues at the enterprise level through stakeholder theories,and lack of discussion on the relationship between CSR behavior differences and performance under strategic choice theory.Based on this,in order to effectively solve how enterprises can improve corporate performance through social responsibility,this paper divides social responsibility into discretionary CSR and developmental CSR on the basis of strategic choice theory and the internal motivation of corporate decision-making behavior as the starting point of research.Taking middle and senior managers of small and medium-sized enterprises in the Yangtze river delta region as the research object,244 valid questionnaires were obtained through various channels,and the relationship between dual social responsibility and enterprise performance,as well as the mechanism of environmental dynamics and organizational legitimac in this relationship were analyzed by Bootstrapping.The findings are as follows:first,the performance of enterprises can be improved if they perform dual social responsibilities,and the role of discretionary CSR is greater than that of developmental CSR.Second,organizational legitimacy mediates the impact ofdual social responsibility on corporate performance;Third,the higher the level of environmental dynamics,the stronger the impact of discretionary CSR on organizational legitimacy will be,and the weaker the impact of developmental CSR on organizational legitimacy will be.Finally,the higher the level of environmental dynamics,the stronger the mediating effect of organizational legitimacy on discretionary CSR and corporate performance,and the weaker the mediating effect on developmental CSR and corporate performance.This study theoretically analyzed and verified the feasibility of dividing the dual social responsibility area into discretionary CSR and developmental CSR,and verified the mediating role of organizational legitimacy,the mediating role of environmental dynamics and the mediating role of regulation through regression analysis.From the perspective of managers,the research divides social responsibility based on internal motivation,which enriches related researches.Based on the theory of strategic choice,this paper discusses the mediating role of organizational legitimacy,the mediating role of environmental dynamics and the mediating role of regulation,and expands the scope of relevant research and theoretical application of social responsibility.
