David Schweickart is a famous left-wing Marxist scholar in the United States,a famous Marxist theorist in the west, and a famous representative of contemporary western "market socialism".Schweickart has always been committed to the study of the successor system of capitalism.Through the criticism of various disadvantages of capitalism and the summary of the experience and lessons of the socialist countries in Eastern Europe,he puts forward that "economic democracy" market socialism is an alternative plan for the transition from capitalism to communism and breaks the myth that "history ends in capitalism"."Economic democracy" market socialism has been debated by scholars with different views. This paper is a series of studies on Schweickart's "economic democracy" market socialism thoughts. The main contents are divided into the following four chapters:The first chapter analyzes the background and historical necessity of the emergence of "economic democracy" market socialism. As a Marxist,Schweickart deeply criticizes the main contradictions and characteristics of capitalism, and deeply realizes the negative effects brought by the disadvantages of capitalism, such as environmental pollution, high unemployment rate, overwork, economic crisis, and serious gap between the rich and the poor.According to Schweickart, only market capitalism and socialism without market are not feasible.Only by combining market with socialism and implementing "economic democracy" market socialism, can we fundamentally find the way to realize socialism. The second chapter analyzes the main content and basic characteristics of "economic democracy" market socialism.Market socialism is different from socialist market economy.Schweickart advocates that in the "economic democracy" society, measures such as self-management of workers, social control of investment, and parallel market and plan should be implemented to promote social democracy and fair development. The third chapter discusses the way to realize "economic democracy" market socialism. From three aspects of workers' self-management,market and social investment, and drawing on the experience of capitalist society, such as entrepreneurs, savings and loan institutions,Schweickart explored the road and social mechanism torealize socialism.Under the conditions of market competition,we should promote the transformation of free trade to fair trade, impose high social tariffs on rich countries, return them to poor countries and help them develop, narrow the gap between the rich and the poor, and promote balanced development in the world. At the same time,we will promote the world to realize the transition from capitalism to socialism by means of fast radical, slow radical and slow stable modes, and realize "economic democracy" market socialism. The fourth chapter is the enlightenment and analysis of Schweickart's "economic democracy" market socialism thought..The thought of "economic democracy" provides unique enlightenment for the integration of socialism and market, and provides experience for the further promotion of Chinese socialist market economy. However, compared with Marx and Engels' view of scientific socialism and the socialist realization plan of proudhon,"economic democracy" market socialism still has the limitations and utopian nature of the times, which still leaves a lot of space for us to deeply investigate the relationship between socialism and market.
