Since the reform and opening up,China has introduced advanced technology from abroad by means of market-for-technology exchanges,which has promoted the technological innovation level of domestic enterprises rapidly.The number of patent applications has ranked the first in the world for many years.However,this approach has also brought a series of consequences,which are manifested in the high dependence on technology introduction and the lack of motivation for independent innovation.At the same time,Chinese products have also been labeled as low-end products.This negative effect has been particularly prominent in the context of Sino-US economic and trade frictions since April 2018.The Sino-US economic and trade frictions is ostensibly an economic war,but in fact,from a deeper perspective,it is a technological war without smoke of gunpowder.The resulting Sino-U.S.technology transfer dispute has brought negative effects which should not be overlooked on the technology development of domestic enterprises,and thus the domestic enterprises are further forced to improve the rate of independent innovation of core technologies by implementing radical innovation and be no longer blindly rely on technology introduction.At the same time,scholars in academia also regard enterprise internationalization,capability reconfiguration and technological catch-up stage as important variables to explain the problem of radical innovation of latecomers.In this paper,first of all,on the basis of combing the domestic and foreign research literature,related theories and literatures of overseas network embeddability,capability reconfiguration,technological catch-up stage and radical innovation are analyzed and summarized to clarify the relevant concepts of all variables and establish the correlation between all the variables,and on this basis,the research hypothesis of this paper is proposed.Then,the effective data of 282 sample equipment manufacturing enterprises obtained from the questionnaire survey was used to process the collected data with data analysis software,and the relevant research hypotheses and conceptual models were subjected to empirical tests.Finally,based on the empirical analysis and research conclusions,relevant suggestions are put forward for enterprises in which overseas networks are embedded for technological innovation.Based on the empirical analysis,the following conclusions of the paper are drawn:Firstly,there is an inverted U-shaped relationship between overseas network embeddedness and radical innovation.In this paper,overseas network embeddedness is divided into two dimensions: overseas network relational embeddedness and overseas network structural embeddedness.The results of empirical test show that both dimensions have an inverted U-shaped relationship with radical innovation.This conclusion expands the research field of the "embeddedness paradox",and it is also the theoretical interpretation of innovation behaviors in the internationalization process of latecomer firms.Secondly,there is an inverted U-shaped relationship between overseas network embeddedness and capability reconfiguration.The empirical results of this paper show that both overseas network relational embeddedness and overseas network structural embeddedness have an inverted U-shaped effect on capability reconfiguration,and with the enhancement of overseas network embeddedness activities,the instantaneous mediating effect of capability reconfiguration will decrease gradually.This shows that the intermediate state is the ideal strength of overseas network embeddedness,and the moderate degree of overseas network embeddedness is more conducive to the reconstruction of enterprise capability.Thirdly,capability reconfiguration plays an intermediary role in the inverted U-shaped relationship between overseas network embeddedness and radical innovation,as well as between overseas network embeddedness and capability reconfiguration.It means that capability reconfiguration plays an important role in promoting the transformation of traditional technology innovation paths of local enterprises and accelerating radical innovation.Fourthly,the technological catch-up stage has a positive moderating effect on the relationship between overseas network embeddedness and capability reconstruction,and it further has a positive moderating effect on the relationship between the overseas network embeddedness and radical innovation.This conclusion will not only strengthen the inverted U-shaped relationship between embeddedness and radical innovation,but also the inverted U-shaped relationship between overseas network embeddedness and capability reconfiguration.At the same time,it shows that with the advancement of the technological catch-up stage,capability reconstruction and radical innovation can be more effectively promoted by appropriately embedding the overseas network.
