Edward Kann was a famous expert on Chinese monetary and financial issues and a collector of Chinese institutional currency in the 1920 s and 1930 s.He lived in China from 1902 to 1949.Edward Kann's representative work is The Currency of China.This work was very influential at the time,and the data on China's financial and monetary aspects described are more credible and have been cited many times by subsequent generations.In addition to this book in the field of finance and money,he has published hundreds of articles of various kinds in various newspapers.The first chapter focuses on Edward Kann 's life.The second chapter expounds Edward Kann 's thoughts on currency reform,including his comments on the Edwin W.Kemmerer's Gold standard monetary reform program,and his attitude towards Abolishing Silver in Favor of the Yuan and the Legal Currency Reform.Chapter three expounds Edward Kann 's discussion on the issue of copper coin,silver token and banknote.The fourth chapter expounds his understanding of the interaction between currency and economic system.Among them,the first section describes his analysis of the Devaluation of Silver,the second section describes his analysis of Chinese Silver Panic,the third section describes his analysis of inflation after War of Resistance against Japan.The fifth chapter evaluates Edward Kann's financial thoughts.In short,Edward Kann has lived in China for a long time and has written quite extensively on a wide range of issues.However,as a veteran of the financial industry at the time,the entry point of Edward Kann's thesis was also quite different from that of scholars who were mainly engaged in theoretical research.Edward Kann's writings are mostly exemplary and descriptive results based on his experience in practice.Systematic theoretical constructs are less common.
