Research On The Impact Of Technology Acquisition On The Innovation Quality Of High-tech Foreign-funded Enterprises

High-tech manufacturing enterprises rely on innovation and development for their survival.They exhibit the highest flexibility and strongest market adaptability in the development and management of high-tech products.The development strategy of high-tech manufacturing enterprises is to take the lead in technology,through which they can identify and capture significant opportunities in the process of development.The rapid development of the enterprises can be realized while maintaining the innovation advantage.High-tech manufacturing enterprises are characterized by high growth,high risk,high investment,high R&D intensity and high innovation,it actively apply new patents and technologies.The generation,transfer and commercialization of knowledge have become the pillar of economic development of high-tech manufacturing enterprises.High-tech manufacturing enterprises rely on new ideas and their foundational technology,funding,human resource planning and human resource evaluation capabilities during their growth;additionally,insufficient resource supply has been identified as the main cause of the collapse of new ideas.It is therefore necessary to overcome the difficulties caused by the lack of technical resources.High-tech manufacturing enterprises should not only obtain resources from outside the enterprises,but also actively seek technical resources from inside the enterprises.Therefore,it is necessary to make full use of the technical resources that can be tapped.Utilizing technical knowledge sources has become an important factor in corporate innovation strategies.However,many enterprises in emerging economies lack the complex knowledge required for innovation,which limits their opportunities for innovation and customer value creation.In addition,high-tech manufacturing enterprises do not fully enter the Chinese market,so they have limited access to various sources of technical knowledge,which may lead to negative enterprise dynamics.Technology acquisition has different impacts on the innovation quality ofChinese high-tech manufacturing enterprises under different circumstances,so it is necessary to analyze the mechanism of technology acquisition affecting the innovation quality of high-tech manufacturing enterprises.Using panel data of Chinese high-tech foreign-funded enterprises from 2009 to2016,we analyzed the impact of technology acquisition on its innovation quality.This article first analyzes the concept and classification of technology acquisition through relevant literature,divides technology acquisition into three dimensions according to its acquisition method,namely in-house R&D,R&D cooperation,and technology purchasing,and proposes the hypothesis of the influence of three dimensions of technology acquisition on innovation quality of high-tech foreign-funded enterprises.Then,this article empirically analyzes the mediation effects of in-house R&D in R&D cooperation/technology purchasing and innovation quality of high-tech foreign-funded enterprises from the perspective of in-house R&D,and the hypothesis were verified by direct effect analysis and mediation effect analysis.Based on the above analysis,this paper obtains the following conclusions:different dimensions of technology acquisition have different effects on the innovation quality of high-tech foreign-funded enterprises.And in-house R&D has different mediation effects between R&D cooperation/technology purchasing and innovation quality of high-tech foreign-funded enterprises.First,the empirical results verify that the in-house R&D has a significant U-shaped relationship with the innovation quality of high-tech foreign-funded enterprises.High-tech foreign-funded enterprises can improve the quality of innovation by strengthening in-house R&D technology acquisition models.In-house R&D plays a key role in improving the competitiveness and economic benefits of enterprises.Through the process of innovation and learning,in-house R&D will help enterprises effectively and efficiently build absorptive and innovative capabilities.It is essential to assimilate,adapt and integrate external acquired technology and knowledge.Second,R&D cooperation has an insignificantly U-shaped relationship with the innovation quality of high-tech foreign-funded enterprises.In the early stage,theR&D cooperation may not significantly affect the innovation quality of high-tech foreign-funded enterprises because of the long R&D cooperation cycle and the high cost for high-tech foreign-funded enterprises to find suitable high-quality partners.Third,technology purchasing has an insignificantly inverted U-shaped relationship with the innovation quality of high-tech foreign-funded enterprises.Appropriate technology purchasing can provide strategic advantages and play an innovative role for high-tech foreign-funded enterprises.However,excessive technology purchasing is an unnecessary cost,which may not be fully understood and digested by employees,resulting in low efficiency of the enterprise,thus adversely affecting the quality of innovation.Fourth,in-house R&D plays a full mediation effect on the relationship between R&D cooperation and innovation quality of high-tech foreign-funded enterprises.The enterprises integrate and transform the technical knowledge obtained from partners with internal R & D knowledge and use it for innovation,the complementarities of internal and external knowledge means that balancing them can improve the quality of innovation.Fifth,in-house R&D plays an insignificantly mediation effect on the relationship between technology purchasing and innovation quality of high-tech foreign-funded enterprises(that is,it failed the Bootstrap test).Through the acquisition of external technologies,in-house R&D will help the enterprises effectively and efficiently build absorption capacity and innovation capacity,which is essential for absorbing,adapting and integrating externally acquired technologies and knowledge.However,domestic high-tech enterprises may not be able to easily understand external resource information,and most external resources are ignored and cannot be digested.Therefore,in-house R&D cannot significantly mediate the relationship between technology purchasing and innovation quality.
