The rapid development of the world economy and the unbalanced distribution of major energy sources across the world have further increased the demand for energy have led to the international energy trade. In the global value chains(GVCs)production system, many countries often choose to import products from other countries to solve their demand of energy, which leads to the export of a lot of embodied energy. Most of the existing literature studies the motivation of export embodied energy from the perspective of inter industry or intra industry division of labor, and few studies explore the export embodied energy effect embedded in GVCs from the perspective of intra product division of labor. Therefore, this paper explains the influence mechanism of the embedded level of GVCs on the export of embodied energy, uses the two-stage least square method(2SLS)to make an empirical analysis of the impact of embedded level of GVCs on the export of embodied energy and discusses the heterogeneity according to the different stages of national economic development and the nature of the industry.Theoretical research and empirical research show that, firstly, the embedded level of GVCs will increase a country's export of embodied energy through the change of trade scale, and increase the export of embodied energy of countries with abundant energy elements and low position of GVCs through the change of trade structure, however, the impact of technological progress is uncertain;secondly, the level of GVCs participation promotes the export of embodied energy, that is,the deeper a country's participation in GVCs,the more embodied energy it exports;thirdly, the degree of GVCs position has a restraining effect on the export of embodied energy, that is,the higher a country's position in GVCs,the less embodied energy it exports;fourthly, the level of GVCs participation and the degree of GVCs position have the same effect on developed countries and developing countries as the results of the whole sample, but it has a more significant impact on developing countries;fifthly, the GVCs participation and GVCs position also have promoting and restraining effects on a country's manufacturing and non manufacturing exports of embodied energy, but the impact of manufacturing exports of embodied energy is greater.Based on the above research results, this paper puts forward relevant policy suggestions from the aspects of embedded level of a country's GVCs,energy use efficiency, export scale and structure of energy intensive products, energy consumption structure, consumer preferences, etc.
